SubjectModel 2 speed in mame 100% speed? new Reply to this message

Mmmmm I have never been a fan of 3D games in Mame cause I know they simply are not playable. But anyways I decided to launch Virtua Fighter 2 and to my surprise it is running 100% speed on Mame32 Plus! with all the extra fancy video settings turned on.

Now I know 3D stuff is not showing. So is it 100% speed because no 3D is been emulated? Or is 3D been emulated but just not showing anything yet?

Will speed go down to 3fps once 3D is emulated/showing?

When 3d is fully emulated expect a 5-6 ghz cpu to run it fullspeed

Actually, R. Belmont himself quoted it at 8GHz.

Erm, whats the deal with using GHz as a measure of CPU speed? That's something that even Intel doesn't want you to use any more...

C'mon guys enough jokes. The guy asked a really good question and I'm hoping someone is capable of giving a pretty accurate estimate as to when we can expect the 3D stuff to to be fully implemented and playable at 100% speed.

How can you ask anyone to be more explicit than that? It's an estimation, and, largely irrelevant. If I told you the exact date it would be perfect and playable and what type of machine you'd need to run it on, would you not worry about it and purchase your new machine on that day? Please.

It'll be done eventually, what's the point in knowing exactly when and how?

What makes you think I wasn't being as serious as a heart attack when I said that RB has said that 3D emulation for Model 2 would bump the requirements up to about 8GHz?

Here's an idea...instead of laying out thousands for a top of the line machine to play a game that frankly, I don't think is worth that kind of investment, just get the PC version and download the Direct3D patch, and quit arguing.

First off, VF2 will never be emulated with polygons. Model 2 and 2A games cannot be emulated with 3D - 2B and 2C can. See system16.com for which games are which.

The current emulation is missing 2 high-speed DSPs and the entire 3D pipeline. I expect 6-8 GHz to be required for full speed, just as was quoted below.

Never say never, you guys just need a copy of the entire relvant Fujitsu documentation to surface...

...speaking of which I recall someone saying they'd approached Sega and Fujitsu but has anyone tried other companies who used the Model2/2A technology like Tecmo, Psikyo, Real3D? Although I doubt they'd necessarily have any info :-P

Nobody is for obvious reasons. It is a free-time project involving at least 2 people, maybe 3, and free-time is well known to be horribly unpredictable.

Alternately, "right now, on [unnamed ElSemi emulator], if you have a 3 GHz PC".

We're not here to make your life worth living, if you aren't happy with the current version of MAME then go find something that does make you happy.
