Atila, BombJack is great isn't it? I'm hooked right now
We have a BombJack tourny in our office at the moment - the highest guy has 545,040 and he looks set to win the prize (bottle of wine)

I can get about 330,000 ish and only then on a good day!

Here here, Bombjack is one of my favorite games. I spent many many quarters in it :).
Nice that someone else appreciates it as much!

Bombjack was one of the first games I owned on my Amstrad CPC so I've known it for a while! Great game, if a little repetitive after a while (but not as bad as 1943 on the CPC which only had 2 (count them!) levels repeated FOREVER! I racked up quarter of a million points or so on that then turned it off!).

The Amstrad version of Bombjack had stereo sound effects, IMHO it was the best home version of the game. Try plugging in your headphones.

Heh, I'd have to plug my CPC in first and it's in a cupboard at the moment! Does still work tho' but it's the 464 which = loads of cassette loading time :-P

Well, unpack it, get it going and then go put the kettle on!
:-)

I grew up with the ZX Spectrum, had one for years. I still have one but i don't have a PSU for it and the UHF modulator is broken.
I just got this from a friend who had it laying around. It compliments the Speccy quite nicely:

You must have had Yie Ar Kung Fun on the CPC, I could play that game forever, well, untill I got bored or going round and round.

As for Bomb Jack, I was lucky enough to have that in the local arcade from 1985-1990, along with Starforce, Mr Do!, Kung Fu Master, Trojan, Flash Gal and many, many more, though some of them only lasted for since months or so.

BombJack is my all time fav arcade game, you got a long way to go to reach my top score though, I can get 100,000 plus after the first level :) To play this game to gain high points per level you need to play with an arcade stick though so you can hover against walls and then wiggle left/right very fast to gain points to trigger the multiplyers.

Nice thing about the game is it also gives free credits by getting the Red 'S' that comes out sometimes.

It is indeed possible to get 100.000+ already from the first level as Razoola says, if you know the secret rules :-)

http://www.bombjack.org/games/bombjack/bombjack_instruction_card.jpg

Always try to get the P when it's golden (jump to make it change colour), and learn the patterns of where the lit bombs appear.
Stop picking up bombs when the B appears and get the B immediately. If you have 5xB you'll get 10.000 points for picking up the P when it's golden!
On later levels the backgrounds will differ, but the bomb patterns repeat.

You actually need to get the 'P' when its grey to get the 2000 x multiplyer, when its golden you only get 1200 x multiplyer points.

Other pointers for big scores are it takes 10 bombs in order to bring out a 'P' (11 if going from start of level where 1st bomb dosent count).

Do not take bombs after you get the 'P' until after the power time has ran out as they will not count towards next 'P'. This way you can get 2 'P's per level. In some cases 3 'P' are possible in one level as the power bar level continues to next level.

Very lucky, Starforce is my next fav game after BombJack, never had an arcade with both in though where I lived at the time.

Got around 860.000 already at round 11.

How does hovering and wiggling the joystick left and right gain points, I don't understand...?

There's three days left for me to become a master and beat 545,040!

Bollocks, I told him those score secrets, and now he's increased his score even further...chances of catching it now approaching zero I think! ;-)

Should you not collect bombs while the P is on the screen, or while you are 'using' the P, or both?

Its best not to get any bombs as soon as the P appears on screen until After its been taken and the timer runs to 0 (I diddent explain it properly the first time). Of course doing this makes it easier to get killed so if you have to take bombs try to take as little as you can.

Commando was so cool on the C64 but BombJack was the worst conversion ever made for Home-Computers. I appreciated the CPC464 version.

BombJack <- one of my all time favorites!

I can get around 1.900.000 points approximately. 2 of my friends got more than 2.000.000 points.
