That was the one event that seemed to rise emulation up from the grave for a little while, nice to see it hasn't gone the way of the UHLE yet. :-)

Gives us a kiss precious.

Any emulator devs wanna comment on how likely it is that this will ever run at playable speeds?

I'm guessing "not a snowball's chance in hell".

Maybe, but many people said at first that chankast was fake, later that it wasn't being ported to xbox and now...

About the speed, it's hard to believe it will run fullspeed in a xbox, but I remember Corn to play fullspeed with a 233 mhz.

Sometimes I don't get it. Why emulate something that is just not playable. At least the Mame team has the hope that a lot of games will be playable someday when we get 6-8Ghz PCs. But the Xbox has no hope or does it? Will Xbox 2 be backwards compatible? Will it have a 2+ Ghz processor? will Chankast actually play full speed one day at 2Ghz? It does not get full speed at 3Ghz on most games as it is.

If you read... it is much faster now. I think they where hoping to get it a bit faster so some games could be played... but not on an xbox.

but if you have the development system.. Some projects aren't all that hard to port to xboxes..

I'm just hoping that they optimized some games so it will run on my 2ghz cabinet... So I don't have to have swappable control panels for my dreamcast cabinet.... just run fighting games on my mame cabinet.... IE, not that big of a deal... but still cool

I think you miss the point of some emulators, & it doesnt really matter if it runs full speed or not. Its a homebrew project & at the end of the day never say never. If a 233mmx can run a N64 emulator well with a 3dfx, then who is to say what a 733mhz PIII can do if done properly.

at the end of the day tho, even if it CANT be done, the time wont be wasted, am sure some of the optimisations can be imported into the PC version.

Emulated accurately..will probably be slow
Few speed hacks, and other tricks to get it running faster and it should be playable.

Is there any reason to be so cynical about it? Is he taking candy away from little kids by doing a quick and dirty port? Did you ever think that it could a proof of concept deal? Damn.....
