I've been wondering when we'd see this bad boy emulated. I've always wanted to play it but no arcades I've ever been in have ever had it. Can't wait to see how it looks.

Now if only the roms would hit usenet or some such.

The BIOS and Evo Soccer are out there, but the Crystal of Kings is knowwhere to be found :(

For those who don't know this game, check this out:

If it plays as good as it looks, I can't wait :)

Saw those out in the wild this morning and it made me feel excited that Crystal of the Kings was out too.. guess not. Shame it never got a home port, the poor screenshots I've been seeing for years and the screenshots you just posted really make me want to check it out.

Ahh well, I'm not in any hurry I guess. I've waited this long, I can wait longer. Especially since I just found out that Brawl Brothers is part of the Rushing Beat series, so I need to track down a copy of that cart to get my beat-em-up fix on.

Complete and total tangent, if anyone knows anyplace to pick up The Peace Keepers, Brawl Brothers, or Rival Turf with the boxes, lemme know :( I'm looking at probably picking up the Japanese versions (especially of The Peace Keepers since the US version got nerfed so hard) which strangely enough are pretty easy to find with boxes, but the US boxes are a bitch to find (copies of the carts aren't too hard to find with the exception of Brawl Brothers, which is proving to be most elusive).

Hmm, and I might still have a Rival Turf box back home...not sure. Shit.

Total Tangent 2 - You know how after you move out of your parents' house and they throw a lot of your shit away because they figure you don't need it anymore? That happened to a bunch of my PC games boxes, I hope to god they didn't do that to my SNES/N64 boxes :(

Thanks for putting up those shots. Looks interesting.

On a tangent, anyone know if AVI recording will ever be readded to MAME? I'd like to cap some videos of various games, especially if the AVI recording were similar in quality to the one in SNES9x/VBA (record an input movie then record an AVI of the input movie capturing every frame regardless of speed so that when you play it back, it runs at full speed; handy for those of us with ghetto PCs)

but AdvanceMAME has the ability to record to separate WAV and MNG files, which you should be able to recombine and compress with a reasonable editor.

Too bad, it looks like the system had potential. Thanks for the info and the screens on your site, gives me an idea of what this system is all about. Even though I doubt I'll try the emu, it's nice to see this stuff emulated. So, what was keeping it from being emulated, was it some kind of encryption? Just curious.

Looks that way. Here's some old news from Guru's site:

8th August, 2004
I need a little assistance..... I've run into a small problem with trojaning the Crystal System PCB. We have the trojan code ready and waiting to be run. I assumed the BIOS ROM on the Crystal System was an EEPROM, but it turned out to be just an EPROM. Since it's a PLCC32 chip, it's not easily swappable with another (blank) EPROM and the one on this PCB is not erasable because it has no clear window. What I need is an old PC motherboard that has a flashable BIOS. The flashable BIOS on PC motherboards is just an EEPROM. I can then re-program that chip to run the trojan on the Crystal System to break the protection (which is absolutely necessary for in-game emulation).
Take a look at this pic....
Anyone have an old PC motherboard that has something similar on it and want to put it to a good use? Ignore this number since it's an EPROM. I need something either 29F010 or 28F010 or similar (020 and 040 are also ok) and it must be a PLCC32 chip like this one. It can be either socketed or soldered on. If socketed, it can be easily removed with a small screwdriver. If soldered, then send the whole board. If you have one, but not sure as to your chip type, just ask and I'll tell you if it's acceptable or not.
Please contact me if you can help. Thanks!

Here's some nice WIP shots of attract and game start in Crystal Of Kings, thanks to ElSemi :-)

Unfortunately, protection prevents in-game emulation working, but this is a great start!
