SubjectOther PGM games decrypted? new Reply to this message

I stumbled across this website,

http://kofbobo.ff18.com/index.asp

I can't read any of it, but they've got a whole bunch of in-game shots of the protected PGM games. I didn't realize there had been progress made on that front....I tryed mame to play Kovsh recently and all I got was scrambled garbage mostly.

That site is down right now. But I'm not surprised to hear someone has decrypted it. It's probably some private build. I'd like to see the shots tho if you have them, post them here.

I copyed the screenshots from my cache but I don't have anywhere to post them up. I'm gonna try to find your email off the front page and email em to you.

But I was looking at the screenshots with notepad and it looks like Knights of Valour Superheroes is runing perfectly on mame and Martial Masters is runing on Nebula. I can't get much with kovsh on mame :S There was also another of the KOV games runing on "Nebula Model 2 Ver 0.6"?!?!?

And I also found this webpage, there seems to screenshots of PGM emulation efforts involving Billyjr (use the side bar to scroll down),
http://sanguo.17173.com/kofbobo/
You should see a bunch of not so perfect KOV superheroes screenshots being emulated by Nebula.

Getting most of the PGM games to run isn't hard.
Getting them to play properly without crashing or exhibiting protection issues is (witness DDP2 in MAME, or all the hacks needed to run some of the earlier games).

Thanks, only I no longer use or check my Retrogames email. Sadly people probably still email me there and don't realize that. That account was destroyed utterly by spam, and since I'm on a low speed DSL connection now, I won't even try to look at it. I posted about it in the news but that was a long while back.

Thanks Purple Rain for emailing these to me.

Looks good:

Please not that they originally came from one of Kofbobo's sites (Chinese emu fan site) but this is the working URL: http://kofbobo.chinae3.com/.

I'm not sure if I should do a news page post on this because I don't want El Semi to get annoyed too much about these games working in Nebula. So for now I'll just keep this on the board.

Just outta curiousity....why'd you convert the png's to jpgs? They were small enough as was.

These shots are from KOV2 and Martial masters, it's not a big problem to get the games working enough to take some shots, but there will be severe gameplay problems on them if the protection is not emulated (for example, martial masters fighters don't move, KOV2 enemies don't attack, DDP2 enemies don't shot).
But I know that somebody has almost finished the protection emulation for KOV Super Heroes, that's a really nice progress.

Will we see a new Nebula soon?

Thanks.

Forget it. Just found this on that Chinese site:

"kofbobo: IS kov2plus perfect now?
ElSemi: hmm, no, kov2 is not working yet .I need to extract the internal arm protection data
kofbobo: I see.thank you.you mean kov2?
ElSemi: yes ,that it has been dumped recently
kofbobo: Can you tell me something about NEBULA2.25?:)
ElSemi: heh I tried to get Martial masters running, but there seems to be problems in the arm emulation core
kofbobo: It seems that PGM ARM it's very hard to emu?
ElSemi: yes
kofbobo: If these games don't run perfect, will You let nebula2.25 out?
ElSemi: yes
kofbobo: how soon will nebula2.25 come out?:D
ElSemi: I hope next christmas .I hope I can release my Crystal System emulator too :)
kofbobo: Crystal system??
ElSemi: yes,Brezzasoft system with only 2 games 'Crystal of the kings' and 'Evolution Soccer'
kofbobo: will nebula2.25 support them?
ElSemi: no, it's a different emu standalone using my model2 emu framework, crystal system hardware is some strange combination of 3D and 2D hardware, say, 2.5D :) it can perform texture mapping, but only on quad, no perspective.no rotation, just flat mapping, but with arbitrary texture index step, so it can roz sprites"

So I suppose ElSemi's still working on Nebula's next version and the PGM protection. Knowing him, I'm pretty sure he's trying to get the games perfectly emulated before releasing it...

But I'm wondering: Didn't MAME have a better PGM emulation than Nebula?

Basically when I open pics they come up in Paint Shop Pro 7, which I had set defaulted to save as jpgs. So when I decided to save them under a more descriptive name, they got converted. It wasn't a conscious decision.

It was late and I'd just finished doing a review of Zuma at Zodiac Gamer, and the snapshot utility I use for Zodiac makes PCX files, which I converted to jpg's for the review. I did the same thing with your pics without thinking about it first.

But yeah, I realize it was pointless, but like I said I was tired and didn't really even pay attention to what I was doing.

Thanks again for sending them over.

I UL'd all the shots now and edited my post above, all in original format. Just renamed them to make posting easier for me.

Yeah, I understand what you mean - I tried DDP2 in MAME and it's a real tease. :P You can play the game, but you aren't REALLY playing it... Heh.

Thanks for all the great emu work El Semi!

no, nebula is better, mame is missing the zoom and seems to have a problem with the sound communication (z80 needs to be disabled for ddp2 to boot)

WOW sounds so damn sexsay, can't wait esp for KOV2 I've heard it's much, much better than KOV which is alright but doesn't quite come close to the greatness of Warriors of Fate Capcom.

As yes, the Zodiac! How's that getting on...?

Hmmm - I just read that Nintendo are attacking the GBA emulator, is that true? Well, fair enough I guess, GBA emulation on a handheld is warez really isn't it :-(
