But the point is, it's ridiculous to get anal in the MAME project about whether Street Fighter 2 is abbreviated to 'sf2' or 'sfii' if your emulation method is getting an encrypted version of the Rom, hacking up some unencrypted version and XORring the two files together.

Yes, do that for a couple of months or so while you get your head round it.
Yes, do that in FB, FBA, Nebula, Callus hack, whatever.
But in MAME the whole ethos is that they emulate everything they possibly can.

You don't pointlessly HLE part of the system because someone called Raz wants to piss higher than everyone else.
