SubjectPS2->USb converters for emus... new Reply to this message

Was looking at some PS2 to PC USB converters, and can't figure out what's best.

My main interest is being able to use a Hori PS2 fighting stick with my PS2 mainly for emus. But I wouldn't mind a converter that also handled Cube or XB controllers too, like this one for example.

Just want to sure there's no lag or multiple input issues using a converter.

Does anyone own one of the converters listed in the links above? Which is best do you think?

Prophet, you need to e-mail me. :) We sell all of those in the store, and if you determine which one you want (as I'm not so sure about the stick compatibility) being a RG staffer, I'll get you a nice price. :)

SDB = super dual box

But I bought the more recent version (darker blue instead of light blue) and it's basically impossible to play fighting games with it, the one with 4 ports isn't that great either. It's totally fine with non-fighting games though if that's what you care about.

I suggest you also post a msg on www.shoryuken.com to see which is people are most happy with.

Xbox controllers are easy I think - they are USB. You just need an adaptor (LikSang?)
haven't tried it though! let me know if you try it and it works!!

(I think PS2 controllers suck anyway. Why the hell haven't they got rid of the hole in the middle of the D-Pad? Thumb PAYNE!!!)

Of course once you've got the Xbox controller, the USB adaptor, the TV out and the audio out, you might as well just take out the PC in the middle ;-)

and it works pretty well with my saturn pad. Tried it with a ps2 pad a while ago; alright for digital input but the analogue sticks work like shite. I haven't tried a ps2 arcade stick with it though (the dc one works fine, but you can only use four buttons), I keep on hearing stories that some controllers don't work with some usb converters, but I doubt an arcade stick would pose the magic box much trouble.

If money's no object, get this (available at lik-sang).

On another point, has anyone had any experience with using a hori soul calibur 2 gamecube stick with any gamecube converters? I can't believe I bought that.

I was looking at that stick. I think it makes more sense to get a PS2 one and a converter, since there are so many good arcade games on PS2 and the converter would also work with MAME on my PC. Also not sure that virtua stick has a real Sanwa stick inside? The Hori Arcade Pro does, and it's the same price - that's what I was thinking of getting.

Years back I only used Hori sticks, this was before I got into MAME back in the early Saturn/PS1 days. I miss the accuracy and short throw range of the Japanese controls, compared to the US style sticks (Happ) I've been using the past several years.

I'm more than happy to give you my business. :) I'm still trying to figure out what stick and what converter make the best combo for what I want. Once I get that down I'll email you about purchasing the converter.

I don't suppose you also carry the various Hori arcade sticks??? Don't think you do. I 'll have to get that from PlayAsia or LikSang.
