I'm sorry but I still fail to see the point of all these XORs for games which were emulated 4 years ago :-P
I put a region switch in FB way-back, and I far I as can tell that covered it. True? False?

Is there a point to them? I mean seriously, is there anything to do with preservation going on here.

Cynical hat engaged. Honest question though, am I missing something, should I be *less* cynical?

Is there a point? a valid question there only answer I have is god knows, seems the hoarding has come back to haunt emulation possibly with these ones, so probably not but I guess someone somewhere might be interested

As far as MAME is concerned, region hacks are bad. Although so are the xors. Once it's cracked properly and all the boards are bought again to dump their keys correctly (*) then everything will be fine.

smf
(*) if you're lucky the existing xors might be enough to reverse engineer the key, but some of the xors had data areas patched out. But you'll be met by lots of "ROM NEEDS REDUMP" messages when loaded into MAME.

False, at least for a number of games (difficulty levels and names may still differ AIUI).

Yes, preserve all revisions and not just one.

Since the revisions are dumped, why not make the xor tables while the algorithm is still unknown?
