SubjectMight not be for an emulator .... new Reply to this message

I looked at the html source and noticed it get linked from
http://users.skynet.be/firefly/nds/ .

Now i know that site, and firefly is a guy who's legit and made stuff before like a gamepark emulator & other stuff and if i remember correctly he was active in creating tools / apps for psx cheat devices in the old days by reverse engineering the xplorer cartidge (still have his soft somewhere on cd). So he has the experience & knowledge to do it so it is possible he's working on one or at least some (dev related) tools for the Nintendo DS and my guess it's the last thing (so not an emu).

:-O

Whoops! Didn't look closely enough - apologises! You are right, that indeed is likely to be the first location of a working DS emulator... in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he has something running already, remember how early he had the GP32 emulator running??!!

Knew I was too cynical these dayz

There is really no justification for a DS emu right now other than warez. IIRC the DS, like the GBA, has the ability to receive information to run at boot, so homebrew developments can *start* right away with that (of course, once the WiFi is figured out).

But the sad reality is that it's more l33t to make a Warezator than coding a new game or improving an existing emulator. :-(

I think FF is the kind of guy who first does a project, puts it on his homepage in some subdir and after it's pretty much finished he registers the domain name (remembering GeePee32)

so I doubt that site has sth to do with him.

look at the html source code, it's linked to a subdirectory at his local isp's webspace. (basicly everything u just said above except u can't know what it's for)

look at the domains whois info, it's registered to him.

There's always a justification for an emulator beyond warez. Firefly is a developer himself, so I'm sure he's developing this to aid in homebrew development (remember his emulator for the GBA that came out before the GBA was even released? It only loaded small roms, cutting out the ability to run most commercial games. I'm sure the same will be done with his DS emulator).

is figured out).

Being a homebrew developer for several systems myself, I can tell you first hand that it's always easier to run code through an emulator than it is through hardware. With many emulators you also get the extra benefit of debug info (which you did with Firefly's GBA emu, so I'm sure the DS will be the same).

I personally don't see any problem with this emulator if it's done in the same way as his GBA emulator.
