Long shot...

But it sure is a great game, and pretty much the only "retro" arcade left to emulate.

Nah. The greatest game of all time is Tempest. The Speed Buggy machine I had was stripped out to make room for a Big Buck Hunter. Believe me, there were no regrets :)

Now gutting a Tempest, Defender, or Centipede machine... that's a different story...

Played it on Steem the other day - still great!

Tempest and Defender are two of the greatest no doubt, but Speed Buggy is even better. I would probably gut a single monitor speed buggy too. It just doesn't do it proper justice.

Given a choice between

Defender and Tempest and Centipede OR a 3-monitor Speed Buggy, I'd take the Speed Buggy.

Hi. I've never heard of Speed Buggy before...well, at least I certainly don't remember anything about it. Can someone summarize what this game is all about and if possible post some pics? It sounds like fun :)

You drive a speed buggy around a race course dodging rocks and logs and stuff. If you hit certain banners or flags you get points or extra time. Three monitors gives you nearly a 180 degree field of view. You sit down inside a big cabinet and it's almost like you are driving a real car.

Probably one of the first arcades to have three monitors (can someone verify this?)

Only bad thing was that it cost $0.50 per game. I was lucky to have a rich friend who supplied me with lots of cash to play this game. I remember dumping $20 of my friends money into this machine one day, got pretty good at it. Was one of the last arcade games I enjoyed playing.

The secret is to know which rocks to crash into.

There is a link to a video of the games attract mode on the post I linked to on the front page, however this is a video of the PCB hoooked up to a television monitor. You really need to sit down inside the three monitor cabinet to get a feel for what it was like to play. The single monitor version pretty much makes it just slightly better than other standard racing games.

Have you seen the prices on new games in the last decade or so? :)

Didn't I see your name on the high score list for Tempest years ago?

I had 1,237,500 on Gorf myself back in the day, even got
listed in Electronic Games magazine for that score.

And I'd use the three monitors on other games. But you've got your favs, and I've got mine :)

I wonder if they'll emulate the three monitors a la Night Warriors and do the single monitor version too. I've never seen the three monitor cab myself.

Good one, but it probably wasn't me that you saw. If it was on a machine high score table, then maybe (BDD- somewhere around 2 million) :)

We both wrote articles for an Apple II magazine in the
