SubjectA "For Starters" Explanation new Reply to this message

-IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE ORIGINAL YET *just in case*-

Feel free to say so in your next post.

-OTHERWISE...-

Let's get on with the current post.

Well, I've just upgraded to MAME 0.94 after having waited since 0.93u1 for something I can't even recall (laziness?), but I finally got the game running, and I've spent the odd minute or so on it. I can play it, not sure of how l33t I am in it, but what I know of the language does help in the gameplay part.

Upon inserting your coins, you should see a nice little mode select screen, and by default (from what I saw), it's on Stage Mode. Move left, and you get Power Mode, but move right from Stage Mode, and you get an Endless Mode. Move left from Power Mode or right from Endless Mode, and you get Battle/Versus Mode. Choose with your main button.

In Power Mode, it gives you a choice of Beginner or Normal mode. Beginner Mode will show you a tutorial that cannot be skipped (to my knowledge), and can also be viewed in attract mode if you want to see it before beginning play. Either time it's viewed, I'd suggest seeing it at least once before play, seeing as how I don't have pics in the body of the post (yet?), it's a great guide, even if you only look at the game action if you can't understand the text, using the text here as a supplement (I can't make an exact translation just yet, merely a summary).

I assume old the modes don't need too much explanation, as they seem to be the same as they were in the last game, Stage Mode a bunch of stages that get rougher as you go along, Endless Mode being a "How High Can You Try?" test of strength, manhood and machismo that doesn't end until you give out, Battle/Versus being a one-on-one free-for-all. Power Mode, on the other hand, lets you play the game with what I'm about to describe.

From the odd minutes I've played of the game so far, there seems to be one new object thus far (I've played on Power Mode so far, so the description picks up here), the large gem-shaped bubble, it's called a Power Ball (I believe). This new object can absorb the color of the ball/bubble that last hit it, whatever hits it will dissolve, and then we get to the good part. When two Power Balls are matched, should there be any balls/bubbles between them, we get what the game and I love to call the POWER CRUSH. That's right, everything in between gets axed, and gameplay continues. Should three power balls align, there's points to be earned, as well as the three getting 86ed.

I'll get more into the game, it's a lot of fun. If there's anything else you need to know, I'll give it the old college try or whatever, and attempt to chip my 2 cents' worth in. Don't know how hardcore I'll be able to get with the game mechanics/how much I'll be able to decipher from said mechanics, and it might take a while, but I'll see what I can do.

If I had a good picture hosting-dadgum-mechanism, I'd try to make a little bit more of a pictoral explanation (if needed), but this is what I can do for now. Suggestions appreciated.

Until Next Time....

Also is available RTFM, it is being. I--{=-^.^-=)

tutorial can be skipped as well as any intermissions, by pressing start

but i haven't played original puzz loop. i know how to destroy the bubbles, etc. i just can't understand how VS mode works. with those black spiked balls and stuff... a match ends in a minute or so.pretty darn quick

thanks for the modes explanation btw, nice stuff. now please tell me some game mechanics ;)))
