I have a radeon 9600 pro with omega drivers(modified catalyst).
Anyhow enabled d3d and disabling filtering does give close results but it's still not as good as d3d and ddraw disabled.
I did try auto rotate left and right but vertical games still work as they would normally(two black strips, one on each side).

You also have a pivot lcd? or you turned your CRT ? (and yes there are people who flip their CRT to play shmups...)
