I am trying to get the Win95 port of Nectaris aka Military Madness to run on my XP machine.

it was released as freeware, and unlike the PCEngine|TurboGrafx ver of N|MM, which I can obviously play in the MagicEngine emu, the PC version has mouse support, one of the main reasons why I want to get it to work

when I try to unpack and run it, I get the following error message:

[16 bit Windows Subsystem]

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitabke for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

[Close] [Ignore]


any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you were trying to run the DOS version? Maybe an emulator like DOSBox would be a better option for that.
I've just downloaded the Win98 version from Hudson's site (http://www.hudson.co.jp/gamenavi/gamedb/slg/data/winnec98.exe) and have no problems running it. Of course it's in Japanese, so that actually IS a problem, at least for me. :)

Nope, it's the same one you just got running
sucessfully running. Im not trying to get a
DOS version running. It's that Win98 one, and
I still get that same 16 Bit Windows message.
maybe its some setting on my machine.

Yesterday the same happended to my brother, maybe some spyware or virus is deleting AUTOEXEC.NT file, we solve
it copying such file from my machine.
I don't know how to upload here, so you can cut/paste this into a AUTOEXEC.NT file, and move to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\

lh %SystemRoot%\system32\redir
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330 T3

p.s. I'm even more glad I was able to get it working
(thanks to your help of course) because I notice the
music &audio are much better than the PCE/TG16
HuCard/Turbochip versions.

How the hell you find that link anyways? I have not seen that file in a few years now. Never was much good at the title, but it can be fun. AI never amused me, but for someone diehard on Advance Wars and the like it will do.
