Sorry, I was bored and wanted to see how many people from the old school I could get worked up when they saw that subject line.

I miss those days of finding hidden text in the html source code to riddles and new releases.

Oh well,

btw, Pr3ttyF1y is not cool. He lies...

Didnt the guys who did the Callus hack (SFZ CPS changer hack) do that ?, when they managed to get the Qsound from the CPS2 version working with the CPS changer version they had a hidden page on their site ranting on about it. I dont remember Sardu ever doing anything like that himself with an official release of Callus, did he do it with Genecyst or Nesticle ?.

they were never real; that hoax guy (what was his name again? J...?) admitted it and sent the boards to Raz afterwards afaik.

Jakesh.

P.S. If you read this Jakesh, how about having a go at Kallus 3? I'd love a CPS3 emulator right about now.

The AvP screenshots he's talking about are unrelated to Jakesh. Jakesh (the Kallus guy) had posted some really scrambled up screenshots of MvSF pr X-men way back, claimed to be emulated screenshots.

The AvP shots are a little more recent (about a year before the CPS2 breakthrough). I don't think those were ever really explained.....but they were definitely legit emulated screenshots....whether or not someone else had beatin Raz to bypassing the encryption is another question though because I remember there being some talk about the screenshots having come from a so called "CPS1.5" board which was essentially a CPS2 board minus the encryption. I'd like to think someone beat Raz to it :P

They were assembled by hand from the gfx tiles (using palettes extracted from the program roms that are unencrypted data?)
They certainly weren't running emulated code.

Anyone remember the Metal Slug 3 fake shots which were assembled with bits of the earlier games mashed together?

You sure about that? There were so many screenshots....there's no way someone could've pieced em together by hand..could they have? Just outta curiousity, how did you find this out and who made the screenshots? Also what was all that CPS1.5 business? Is there even such a thing as CPS1.5?

Capcom had a sort of games console called the CPS changer, it ran certain CPS1 boards designed sepcificly for home use. There was
also some CPS1 ports of CPS2 games, Street Fighter Zero was one of them which was emulated way before CPS2 was cracked (sfzch.zip) and apparently Alien vs Predator was another. Aside from some minor graphical details (instead of 4 shadows following you during a super like in the CPS2 version you had 2 that flickered, also the electricity effect for RYU, Ken and Roses fireballs were missing in the intro) and some major sound differences (no Qsound, and much lower quality sound effects) the games were almost identical, certainlly having 2 static screen shots from each version side by side you would be hard pushed to tell the difference.

Ive never seen the CPS changer version of Alien vs Predator, but apparently it does exist.

Check this out:

http://web.archive.org/web/19991013124606/http://geocities.com/TimesSquare/Hangar/4243/kallus2/kallus2.htm

It's the internet archive of his web page, but sadly the pictures aren't there.

Have a look at Jakesh's hilarous document on CPS2 encryption. Hahaha.

What's your source for this information? I'm aware of the CPS changer, The AvP thing I remember had nothing to do with CPS changer from what I remember.

that we had an official list of all the CPS Changer games released at one time or another (I'm guessing back around 99/2000) and that SFZ was the last (and only CPS2) game released for the system. I've never heard of an AvP Changer.

I suppose it might have been some sort of bootleg system, but wouldn't you think they would bootleg a more popular/profitable game like SSFII?

I had played the games ages before a working console emu was out, and it was pretty amusing to find out that the makers of that hilariously horribly wrong game made extremly good emus too. Haw.
