I mean, they're pretty impressive to watch and they can be awesome tools for plotting out actual runs (quite a few speed runs are run using the paths done in tool-assisted videos), but too many people get them confused with "the real thing". It's a shame, too...because then people assume that videos like the Tetris Grand Master videos (from Arika's site) are fake or that the Dodonpachi Daioujou videos are fake (protip: Arika commonly has the plays practice on modified boards to beef up their skills, which lead to some serious drama and a falling out with Cave after the Ketsui DVD superplay fiasco)

So yea, anyway... Check Archive.org and SDA, though neither have the specific video you're looking for.

I'll check around at some private/semi-private ftps when I get back home tomorrow night.

...some great stuff there. well, i had absolutely no background info on the SMB3 vid i postet the link to, just found that by accident.
guess i was pretty naive believing that the run was played realtime. www.archive.org states it was played using quicksaves and slowmo-options on an emu.
watched that thing with a friend and we both thought
OMFG!, especially on the part when he jumps on the projectiles and gets 99 1UPs. using QS, and slowmo on a emu to get this run is really cheap shit IMO.

as for the the cancelled superplay DVD, i wasnt able to find
much background info on that, although it sounds interesting to me. only that Arika had "miscommunication" with the hired player about a special non-death version of a game.

anyone knows if there already DVDs released similiar to the Arika one?
cant find anything in google on that stuff...

:)
