Maybe he's in love with that exact/specific copy. :P
Also - to the original poster - make sure that the pins of the cartridge and the pins in the NES are clean. Use rubbing alchohol if need be. NES games rarely die - its the connectors that get dirty and the game stops functioning.
Also - don't "blow on the games". The reason that works is because saliva moistens the points and allows the current to flow across the pins - however its not good for the game since the there might be cross flow from one pin to another.
Maybe someone else can provide a better explaination - but you could short out the game or the console (NES) that way.
