in the newest version of MAME, I get DMA errors when I try to run Gradius 4 and I don't know why. I've seen perfectly emulated pics of it running on KLOV and I"m curious as to why it dosen't seem to be working for me, anybody have any idea?????

Hence the "THIS GAME DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY." message you see every time you start it in mame.

Most places hock it for ~$10-$15 or so and you'll be able to play a perfect arcade conversion without having to upgrade the fuck out of your PC.

and then you'll realize how dull Gradius III and IV are and be glad that you only dumped a few five spots on them instead of a fucking box of zitti.

PGM and GNet emulation is where the money is :)

Hey now, Gradius III is fucking CHOICE and better than anything on PolyfuckingGame Master. Especially Doo Doo Pachi 3. But yeah, IV sucks.

Gradius III is the best of the Konami Gradius games, but I still don't care for it very much at all :P The balance isn't as bad as the earlier games, but it's still not up to snuff with the japanese version of Thunder Cross or Xexex, let alone what other companies were putting out in the same era.

and you so did not just slam Dodonpachi Daioujou. That game is a freight train of love and badassity. Cave's PGM efforts (from what I've played... until console ports of Ketsui and Ibara come out, I'm not going to get to play them :( ) have been outstanding, though they've been all over the map when it comes to difficulty. Balls busting hard? That's ol' Dodonpachi. Great for newbs? Gotta love ESPGaluda. Great for everyone? Mushihimesama, a-hoy!

Or you could just play Gradius V. It's a million times better than 4. It's a great game for the series. Definitly the best looking and sounding one in my opinion. Plus it's programed and done by Treasure who used to work on all the classic Konami games.

They weren't even a company, group, or team until they all splintered off. There's a megashit ton of awesome Konami games that no members of Treasure ever worked on, and when members DID work on games, it was only one or two of the people that'd leave to form Treasure at a time.

Treasure also has a pretty damn spotty track record as of late. Stretch Panic? Silpheed the Lost Planet? Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Bad Dream? Advance Guardian Heroes?

but yea, Gradius V is the ownage. Totally different kind of game from R Type Final, though. Sure, they're both horizontal shmups, but they play completely differently.

More of ya'll need to pick up Castle Shikigami 2. Now THERE'S a badass shmup.
