SubjectWhat's would you like to see emulated still? new Reply to this message
Posted byIceMan
Posted on11/02/05 07:29 AM

Time for another of these pointless straw-polls!

For me it would be (in no particular order):

- Virtua Racing on Genesis/Megadrive (SVP chip emulation) - then I won't have to play it on my flakey Megadrive!
- Sega Model 1
- Sega Model 2A & 2B
- Buggy Boy
- missing polygons in Starblade
- Winning Run/Driver's Eyes
- Gaelco's World Rally

That's about all I can think of right now. Model 3 emulation improvements would be nice but I'd be happier to see the older games emulated first.

Anyone else?

SubjectPGM and Taito G Net new Reply to this message

Most of the good G Net games got ported to Playstation and Playstation 2. Most. Not all :( Hell, even some of the bad games got ported. edit - You Chaos Heat fans know what I'm talking about. From what I understand there was a crappy Playstation sequel to it, but I've never played it. I guess it's similar to how Philosoma got a Playstation 2 sequel that was nothing like the first game.

I'd really like to see all the different forms of encryption on the PGM games broken so that I could finally play games that:
a) will never come out in arcades here
and
b) never get ported to a home console

It also makes me sad that Ketsui has yet to get a home port. Cave, I love you so...why must you torment me? :(

edit 2 - Virtua Racing 32x works fine, right? It's a better port than the Genesis one *Shrug* Also, if the SVP is known to just be a Hitachi SH-1, what's the hangup on getting it working?

I'd rather have the games already in MAME fixed up.

Examples:

  1. Wizard of Wor still isn't right. The joystick is being 'moved' (virtually I guess) during the demo which causes the Wizard to say something each time a new screen comes up.

  2. Galaxian still doesn't sound right. Sparcade had the sounds and background hum down pat.
Just my two cents.

I'm STILL Rick James, bitch

If it hasn't already of course, I haven't really been paying attention! In a fast playable emu.

And Time Crisis. In a fast playable emu.

And Time Crisis 2. In a fast playable emu.

In fact, (insert name of 3D game). In a fast playable emu.

Actually - forget Time Crisis 2 - that had a decent PS2 version. Time Crisis 1 definitely. At playable speeds.

House of the Dead - a good emu for that would be ace. No home conversion as far as I know and that was a pretty cool game.
(And all the usual, Buggy Boy, blah blah)

N64 Emulation.

I'm sure you're thinking...its been done... kinda, but in a very wrong way.

I'd like to see a real N64 emulator and not one loaded with HLE, band-aids, and incorrect quirks. The current two are sadly just clones with the same buggy issues with their cores, and the plugins people make while a few are great are at the mercy of the shoddy cores so when one thing is fixed two more are broke.

Play it on Playstation. It's not pixel perfect, but the conversion WAS nice, and you can use footpedels from your favorite racing setup for it and ignore the second button :)

get it on PS2 along with Time Crisis 2, Ninja Assault, and Vampire Night

Check for home ports of a lot of them. There's a ton of great Naomi games that didn't get home ports, sadly...but oftentimes the games people want are available on other platforms.

the Saturn port of House of the Dead rocked. graphics weren't half as good as the arcade and there were some serious load times, but it still had all of the paths and all of the fun from the arcade original. If you have a saturn, track it down. It's an R6 game (same as Panzer Dragoon Saga) but it shouldn't be too hard to find for not-so-much. Make sure you pick up an extra gun for it..nothing like clearing it out akimbo :)

the most the various emulators will do with the SVP-chip powered Genesis/Megadrive version is show the 2D graphics (thinks of MAME gone by days)

That's true, however the Genesis version is closer to the arcade in some respects ("Game over yeaaaaaaaaah!" ending compared to the cheesy 32X version) and it also features several hidden animals (horse, sheep, dog...!). Finally the Genesis version includes the Acropolis/buildings on the hillside in the Acropolis track, which are bizarrely missing from the 32X version!

Or get the PC version; made by same team who did Saturn version (along with PC and Saturn Manx TT ports). Or run the arcade version almost perfectly (as long as you're not using an ATI card :-/) in the Model 2 Emulator...

Are you taking the piss? The PSX version ran about half the speed? I was mortified when I got it home.

Yeah I know, I had that setup, it took some of the pain away from the fact it ran about HALF THE SPEED (unless it was a 50hz/60hz thing)

Though I remember there was another game. I wonder - would there be a way now of playing Time Crisis at 60hz in the UK (if that was indeed the problem..)?

Time Crisis was butchered from the arcade version.

The arcade version ran on System 22 hardware which was a quite a bit more powerful than the PSX.

Arcade TC ran at 60FPS with higher texture resolution whereas the PSX version ran at 30FPS with textures the size of lego blocks.

Oh that is NIIIICE! I didn't realise Elsemi's Model 2 emulator was so good!

I just played House of the Dead (how HARD is that flipping game... even with Infinite Credits!!), and it was great! And I have an ATI too!

It runs at half the framerate but still goes along at normal speed. It's just not as smooth :)

Also, the extra mission more than made up for it. Plus, Project Titan wasn't too bad either.
