SubjectJava Emulators for a Nokia 3120 mobile phone ? new Reply to this message

So I got a Java phone, and ive done some searching and found every java app you can shake a stick at bar games or emu's.I could have sworn there was a Gameboy Colour emu for Nokia phones ages ago. This phone is hardly cutting edge, but it might have been back then. If not, does anybody know where I can get some decent games for this phone ? (Tetris, Breakout, Pac Man etc).

ps - I didnt get the USB lead free with the phone, but I assume there's some other way of getting the programs on there.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, there's a NES emulator for mobile java at www.vampent.com (vnes). I tried it on my Sony Ericsson K700i a while ago but it was a bit slow.

Your mostly out of luck with a none-Symbian Nokia like the 6600 or 3650. There are some pretty decent emus for Symbian phones. The commercial vBoy, now version 1.3 I guess, plays Gameboy games full speed with sound and due to the very small resolution of the Gameboy that even fits the Symbian screen's resolution, it is quite a pleasant experience. I played the Oracle games on my 6630. Really enjoyable.
vNes plays the NES full speed, full sound, but due to the limited resolution, cropped badly.
vSun, even though it is a commercial product, is slow but at least reasonably compatible. I wouldn't recommend it though.
PicoDrive brings really great Mega Drive emulation to Symbian phones, but they are, as always, cropped.
And then there's Mame, or for my phone (6630) EEMame. It's great for the golden age games, cropped or not. Dig Dug rules, also Frogger and Galaga. No NeoGeo or CPS 1 though.

On the Java side you won't get that much diversity. Yet there are some remakes of classic arcade games. I've seen King of Dragons (2?!?), Pacman, Frogger, even some Mario clone, but I haven't tested most on them.

Not cropped, just resized, in fact there's multiple options. There's no other way, you have a 320x224 image and a 176x208 screen, it just doesn't fit without resizing ;-)

Your phone doesn't support Symbian or midp2, so you'll be somewhat limited, but you should find lots of stuff over at getjar.com to try out.

I never tried a java emulator, but I imagine not a lot more than a gameboy or a spectrum should run well.

Also it's a bit of a pain in the ass because you have to add the rom images to the Jar file and then download the lot to the phone (it's made slightly easier once you realise that Jar files are just .Zip files though)

But you are effectively running an emu inside a Java emu inside a low power computer - it ain't going to be the fastest thing in the world! Get a nice Nokia 3230 or a SPV if you want decent emulators :-)
