Subjectwhat's better: CapClassicsCol. Xbox or those games on MAME for Xbox ? Reply to this message

what reproduces the original Capcome arcade games more faithfully: Capcom Classics Collection on Xbox, or playing those games via XMAME on Xbox?

I heard that, with the exception of 6 games (i.e Final Fight, Forgotten Worlds) these are ports of the Playstation version of Capcom Generation collections of the late 1990s, which were not 100% identical to the arcade games although pretty close.

would I be getting a more arcade-accurate experience playing these games via MAME on Xbox ?

MAME all the way. I'd say buy the collection just to show your support for decent retro packs, as it's not a TERRIBLE pack at all, but there are some major hitches . For instance, Final Fight has more sluggish control and the music is off.

Doesn't quite compare to Taito's collections (Joukan/Goukan/Classics), but I'd take it over Namco's refried collections any day of the week (though namCollection was nice, if overpriced)

Get XMAME and use it.
It's good to support the companies, but IMSHO if you do and then play the MAME version, you aren't hurting them...
NOTE: It is ILLEGAl TO USE ROMS YOU DON'T OWN, but IMSHO, if you support the company by purchasing their collections of such games, you don't hurt them, or anyone else by playing the "real thing."
And YES I have the PS2 version, it was a Christmas gift from my sweetie...

Buy it to support Capcom. It's only $20... There are some very nice extras that should interest arcade nuts like scans of marquees, instruction cards, monitor bezels, shots of cabinets, design sketches and all sorts of artwork. Very nice bonuses.

As far as accuracy, I didn't notice any *glaring* errors outside of the SF2 games, but I haven't played most of them in some time and didn't compare them side by side to MAME. They felt like the real arcade experience, for whatever thats worth.
