Try getting many "rare" SNES games on EBay. Mega Man X3, Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Secret of Mana, all dumped but the real carts *assuming box and docs are included* is ridiculous...
Of course I'm a heathen, I throw out the box, lose the docs, and just keep the cart/game. If I had the full box/docs to my SNES/Dreamcast games, they'd be worth quite a bit, but I own them to use them and would NEVER sell for profit *nothing against those who do*...
My games are "treasures" because I like playing them, not because some moron on EBay will pay $100 for it...
*one note, I'll admit I really wouldn't have minded selling Final Fantasy Tactics with the manual on EBay after it became rare. I never cared for that game, but I kept it...*
