I won't support anything that screws with my computer's hardware. Starforce writes invisible/hidden drivers to your computer and it will mess up your CD/DVD burner...Removing Starforce without the "free" program that uninstalls it is a PIA, and uninstalling the game DOES NOT uninstall Starforce, it also opens up your computer to viruses and trojans...

Google Starforce Boycott for technical information....

or go here http://www.glop.org/starforce/

Here's what runs Starforce

http://www.glop.org/starforce/list.php

"# Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition
# Namco Museum 50th Anniversary"

As you can see it includes Retro-games!

If anyone would like to be a guinea pig let me know!
Anyway, it seems only older versions of Starforce had "vulnerabilities," long since patched. That damaging optical drives nonsense is simply that, and I understand that a system would already have to be affected with malware for that "vulnerability" to even be exploited.
I ran FEAR, which had that Starforce shit- nothing happened to my PC thus far. Then again, I am pretty well locked down.

I'm sorry, I don't trust StarForce, I agree it's doubtful it "breaks" CD/DVD players, but I do think it can screw with burning CD/DVDs...

I have 1 game that uses StarForce and am getting another a friend already purchased for me, but I'm trying to keep from knowingly buying any games with the protection...

I'm hoping some software companies will eventually drop the protection scheme when their games become old...

I just don't trust StarForce and as a consumer will try to boycott any games that include the program...

FEAR doesn't use Starforce, it uses SecuROM 7. If you have Starforce on your PC, it must be because of some other game.

Here, check this game database to find info on what games use Starforce:

This site that claims how safe StarForce is, is actually CREATED BY the StarForce developers! They made it in an effort to convince people that their product isn't shit but some clever person did a WHOIS on onlinesecurity-on.com and it came up with StarForce's info in the whois! HAW!

Does that mean we all stop gaming on the PC? History shows plenty of examples of "dangerous" copyright protection companies ending up to be just a bunch of fluff. If you're a true pirate, you will find a way around ANY protection. I don't much care anymore, as I make good enough money to BUY all my games lately. *Shrugs*

I don't want to burn coasters just because StarForce fucks with my CD/DVD RW! I like backups, archiving my hard drive from time to time, I don't want some software company sneaking shit that smells like a trojan, worm, or virus onto my computer...

Maybe you don't backup your system, I dunno, I don't care, but when people's drivers are screwed without their knowledge or consent, then I think there is a problem...

Wait until you're CD/DVD burner stops burning CD/DVDs and see how you feel about it...

Or do you think owning a CD/DVD burner means you don't buy legal software?

I don't wear a tin foil hat, and yes, I do back up my system onto DVDs just fine and YES, I just found out that one of the games I installed in the past has *GASP!!* Starforce protection. Quick! Call the FBI! The Pinko Commie Ruskies are trying to control our minds with Starforce!

You missing the point entirely. If i install a game I want the game to be installed and thats it. I don't want no hidden drivers allowing backdoors into my systems security features, installing hidden registry entries causing possible conficts with my hardware and operating system. I especially don't want them installed without been told about it. I have boycotted several starfarce games now that i would of otherwise bought, because of this. Its more due to the underhand tactics used to install the software. If a plumber came around to install a boiler in your bathroom and added a secret camera in the corner of the room wouldn't you be annoyed. Its exactly the same principal.

As usual the only thing copy protection hurts is the legitimate users. Hackers and pirates just work their way around the protection.

was at my friend's place and she had Midway arcade treasures 2 and 3.

first, each is 2 CDs. and installs to over 800+ megs...
so if you have MAT 2 & 3 it will take over 1 gigs.

that's stupid considering most of the game are rather simple arcade games and in terms of emulator and roms they shouldn't take more than say 100 meg for MAT2, MAT3 might be say 300meg max because of the 3D games in it...

I don't care for what ever the crap they include. 10 year old game shouldn't take over 1 gig of space in my HD.

second, that stupid StarForce drivers.. just give me the hives.. no thanks!

yeah but deluxe edition includes San Fran Rush 2049 and Hydro Thunder, both were standalone single games on Dreamcast so that's probably where the size is.

that I can understand, that's in MAT 3. MAT2 is 2 CD also and all I remember is some basic 2D games in roms int shouldn't be more than 100-150 megs...

don't know what the hell they put in the 2 disc... could be interviews or videos. but screw that I don't need it installed in my HD
