Now with Afterburner FF support. Though, I had problems with it myself using my X-Box controller. Post here if you're able to get it working yourself.

As the page keeps going down (thank you Geocities), I put up a mirror here:

If you update the Outrun set to the latest 0.105 MAME set it won't work! Not even if you combine all the ROMs from the bootlegs into one zip - you need the Outrun set as used previously in Final Burn still...

Outrun still works fine on my Logitech MOMO Force (red) wheel, wasn't able to use split axis tho I didn't mess around long, maybe just need to get settings right.

As for Afterburner - it's Afterburner II only in fact. You have to steer the joystick left and right once game fires up to get successful motor reads (once you set dip switch as described on the page too).

I tried Afterburner II on my MOMO wheel (lol) and my ye olde Microsoft Force Feedback Pro (gameport!) joystick. Both seemed to do some forces, only in the left/right direction - the game doesn't have up/down forces, never realised that before!

It's practically unplayable on the Microsoft stick as it uses electronics to auto-centre the stick too meaning the game force feedback whacks it hard to centre, the stick goes beyond centre and wobbles chaotically back and forth as it engages left then right force! The crash effect is okay but a little weak (feels better on wheel bizarrely, like there are more wobbles if that makes any sense).

I did notice a bug tho - the Afterburner II force feedback seems to stop working shortly into the game, often after a crash (i.e. when you lose a life).

Note also in the F2 game settings you can increase the force feedback power inside the game under the Motor Test menu,

Yeah, I am using some old merged set of OutRun. I'll update FinalBurn to match the MAME set using the MAME source code.

Yeah, I'd say that is something to do with FinalBurns controller settings. OutRun works on my PC using split axis.

Hmm... it should be both After Burner 1 and 2. I've just booted up After Burner 1 and found that Dip B should be set to 0 (Moving Deluxe) for the motor to be set up.

The emulator should move the joystick for you to the joystick's limits. After Burner will move the joystick in a random cross pattern. The motor test should read "GOOD" in each direction and the motor test should pass.

After Burner has both horizontal and vertical forces.

Yeah, it does this on my machine too. I coded an artificial deadzone into the emulator but the joystick still sways left and right, so this might be a feature of the arcade machine?

It's weak on the Microsoft joystick as well? I was hoping that the weak effects were due to my Logitech joystick. It'd be great if I could walk into an arcade to find out how the actual After Burner machine responded.

I've seen this happen too. I do not think it is a bug with the emulator as the emulator does not keep any state information between frames. It seems like the After Burner game code has some sort of machine failsafe code built in, but that is just a guess.

I thought this only affected the Test menu. But I'll give it a try, thanks.
