SubjectWindows version of Retrocade? new Reply to this message

Hey all!

It's been quite a while (years?) since I've posted in here, but I do like to check back in on occasion and see what's going on in the emulation scene.

I did have a question, though--I remember that Neil Bradley was, a long time ago (mid 99 or so?) working on a Windows-native port of Retrocade. Did that ever materialize in any form of public release? I can barely seem to find any mention of it anywhere on the net, so I assume it was never made available to the public.

The only reason I ask is because it was the only emulator I ever knew of that let you hear the looping audio-tape music track in Journey once you beat each of the 5 levels per stage.

I know I can run the DOS version of Retrocade in DOSBox, but even on my P4 3.0ghz, performance is horrible once you get into the game itself, even with the "Cycles" option set to "max".

Anyone have any tips on either where I might find the Windows port of Retrocade, or alternately, if any other emulators exist that can play Journey with the audio track?

Thanks!

MAME can do that since a few versions ago. Find the sample and you're done.

Great! I wasn't aware of that; I'll see if I can look it up.

Thanks for the reply!

Thought I would post this in case anyone else is interested or searching for the same thing down the road. Mr.Do did a fantastic recreation of the original cassette tape included in the Journey cab. The website detailing its creation (and the download link) can be found here:

Funny that you should mention Retrocade. I've been thinking of it too, for a different reason. I found that it had the absolute best controls for Spy Hunter short of the original arcade machine. I would love to play Retrocade again, if only for that one purpose.

So what is the answer to the OP's Q, is there a useable version around? (I remeber it was teh sh1t when it was released, with all the rumors around it, and its wack GUI and all...!)
