SubjectAMD Turion new Reply to this message

I'm thinking of splashing out a lot of money on a new laptop and I would like some information on how MAME is likely to run on this laptop as compared to the one I currently own.

The system I'm planning on buying is an Alienware Aurora laptop with the following specs:

AMD Turion 64 Mobile (single core) ML44 2.4ghz 800mhz FSB 1mb L2 cache.
2Gb DDR 400mhz ram.
1GB (dual 512mb) Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS SLI Enabled.
400gb (2x200gb) 7200rpm sata hard disk drive (Raid 0 configuration).

The system I currently own is a:

3.2ghz Pentium 4
1gb DDR ram
128mb Nvidia Geforce FX go 5600 graphics
80gb 5400rpm hard disk

While the Alienware system (which costs over 2500 British pounds) will undoutably blow my current system away regarding modern PC games I am, however, concerned about the CPU. I know very little about CPU's and I'm worried the AMD's slower clock speed of 2.4ghz will have an impact in applications such as Mame. And god knows, I'd hate to spend so much money on a system only to discover it is weaker than my current laptop in certain ways.

Any information regarding this CPU (by the way, does anyone know the current fastest speed of a Pentium 4?) and its strength and weaknesess would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Look for something in the intel core 2 duo line, they're top dog now. And honestly, i don't recommend Alienware. They charge a buttload of money for something that could be bought for a lot less without the brandname bullshit.

And also, if your main goal for a computer is gaming, unless you do a lot of moving around, travelling, etc., i don't see the reason to shell out £2500 for a laptop when you could buy a top of the line desktop PC with that kind of cash.

All work and no play makes me..., well, you know the rest.
