SubjectPlay your CPS games 384224 fullscreen (nvidia). Reply to this message

I used to do this on older nvidia cards by editing the registry but you can do it easily with a simple program.

I'm using a 7900GTX, 94.24 drivers, and RivaTuner software.

Open RivaTuner and in the Main tab click the Customize button near the Driver settings area. Click the icon at the end, the one with the arrows in the monitor. Enter 384 for width and 224 for height, click the Standard button at the Refresh rates list, hit Add button, and restart your computer when prompted. LEAVE ASPECT RATIO AT "CUSTOM". Also, you can probably screw with the fresh rates if you want.

This should help you play CPS games at their native resolution or you can run it at 19001200 with a bunch of SHITTY-LOOKING FILTERS. ASS

You can use the Forceware driver control panel to do the same thing, but you have to switch to 'classic mode'.
There's a button on the resolution and refresh rates tab named 'custom resolutions'.

One advantage to doing it this way is that you don't have to restart, you can use the new resolutions immediately.

Just sayin..

Using 1024x768 (or higher if you like), using a Prescale of 3 makes the games stretch *nearly* pixel perfect full screen.

Hyper Street Fighter II @ 1600x1200 w/ prescale of 8 (probably over kill)
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Hrm... just ran a series of tests using my mame.ini + running the following command lines/getting following results:

D:\Emulators\MAME>mame tekken3 -noafs -nothrottle -str 60 -prescale 3 -r 1024x76
8
Average speed: 159.88% (59 seconds)

D:\Emulators\MAME>mame tekken3 -noafs -nothrottle -str 60 -prescale 3 -r 1024x76
8
Average speed: 159.73% (59 seconds)

D:\Emulators\MAME>mame tekken3 -noafs -nothrottle -str 60 -prescale 8 -r 1600x12
00
Average speed: 164.61% (59 seconds)

D:\Emulators\MAME>mame tekken3 -noafs -nothrottle -str 60 -prescale 8 -r 1600x12
00
Average speed: 164.95% (59 seconds)

D:\Emulators\MAME>mame tekken3 -noafs -nothrottle -str 60 -prescale 3 -r 1600x12
00
Average speed: 164.76% (59 seconds)

Interesting that a higher prescale and resolution are actually getting higher results... x1950Pro FTW? This I must investigate...

i'm using forceware drivers to try it, switch to classic mode, then if i try to add custom resolution of 384x224 it just says "the custom res input is invalid" and i can't add that resolution... wtf? any workaround?

Nice and clean and no need for custom modes :-D

Yeah you're right it doesn't like this resolution for some reason. It used to work with older drivers, I've added this resolution before.

Mamedev Derrick Renaud did a writeup on how to do custom resolutions in a different way but now I can't find his website. Rivatuner is probably the way to go then.
