You can't skip it. Press the first player button one (usually the CTRL key) and wait (A LONG TIME) for the CD Flash to initialize. The good news is that you only have to do this one time, provided that you do not delete the nvram file.

Either modify the source code to no longer check for the CD, or modify the source code so that the regions are changed to NOCD mode.

Also, to get the text in English you'll need to modify the source code AGAIN, and re-enable the region hacks. Keep in mind that if you do any of this you will not get any support as doing this makes your build of MAME "custom" and therefore unsupported.

I have put skip at 10/10 and left it during the morning shower before going to work. when it finally ended, the game started, I made a save (in case of)
when i rerun the game, it ran immediatly.
obviously its just a patience question.

Though I noticed on SFIIIA that I had only sprites for player 1... erm did I disable sprites or layer involuntarily ?

I understand and accept that the goal of the project lies in preservation, but it still pisses me off sometimes that pushing the games to a playable state is so low on some of the dev's priorities.

What's the fun in preserving if you can't just enjoy the fun the games provide, hassle free?

And please, don't make this into a flame war, i'm just voicing my oppinion, i aprecciate and am gratefull to all the team has accomplished in all these long years i've been around, but MAME really has lost it's glamour for me.

All work and no play makes me..., well, you know the rest.

you have to waste 20-25 minuted per game to have it init the cd, then everytime you will rerun the game you would not have to wait the init time.

Yeah, but it's open source so one can always use the source to compile their own emulator and remove the cd loading if they wanted to. That's the beauty of MAME. While at times it sucks when accuracy trumps playability, you've always got access to the source code so you can always modify it to suit your needs.

That's indeed the reason why MAME is supporting it (and i fully support it. Mame is after all a system emulator and not a game hack). But my question was more directed towards JAW: why did you as a gameplayer use the cd version instead the nocd version? Does it bring extra game features etc?

There is absolutely no difference between the nocd and the cd versions of the games. Just a one byte difference in the BIOS. The NoCD version is simply a version where instead of extracting the rom data from a CD and flashing it to the Flash ROMs on the board, the data is housed within ROMs contained within the cart (I believe) so no flashing of data has to occur. This is how it starts up immediately without any delays.

Featurewise, there's nothing different unless you have a different version date of the game data. (In which case the 6-digit date would differ).

Guys, when I try to play warzard in mame, upon inserting a coin and pressing start, it says "No CD-ROM Drive". What does this mean? Surely it doesn't mean that I need to wait, right? I'm NOT using the *LATEST* mame, I'm using the mame plus plus that was released on June 29th. If I grab the LATEST mame, the one that emulates the cd drive, will this message go away?

Yes, you will see the message go away if you use the latest MAME. The version you are using does not have CD-ROM support and Warzard REQUIRES the CD-ROM unless the game was region hacked to a No CD region.

Heh the local Street Fighter III at an Aladdin's Castle in Cranberry, Pa *back in 2000* was rarely played and often broken. CPS3 games never seemed to be working much or played, only now after the platform is dead do most gamers care about the games, heck hardly anyone bought the ports of the games, although comparing them to MAME, I see they weren't as good as I thought they were.

Playing Street Fighter III 3rd Strike with a DOA 4 controller in the stand alone CPS3 emulator and/or MAME is fun!

I like that DOA4 controller! A lot!
