Emulates Neogeo now but CPS1/2 is underway. Remember its still beta and contains bugs

A closed source emulator for systems which are already perfectly emulated in many open source emulators seems a little pointless don't you think?

Seriously, if there are 2 systems that *don't* need any more emulators it's neogeo and CPS. We already have over-saturation with them. Choice is good, but for those systems there is already plenty of choice, while for many others there is only Mame.

Pointless to end-users, maybe. Fun to write for the guy, certainly. I don't think the main reason he's writing an emu is to compete with mainstream emulators.

Yeah, and he might open it up when he gets a bit farther along.

And who knows. He might have plans for it that haven't been incorporated yet.

always good to see other emulators. Shows the love of the programmers.

I mean, what if he wants to RetroFX is and get someone to do all new HiRes GFX Packs for the KoF games ;)

It would immediately suck all the lamers away from MAME (well... destroying the mame.net board did that pretty well too ;)

Hi,

Yeah maybe you are right but the only reason I did it because of the fun and because I can. There is 75% chance that emu might become opensource and will be available on solaris in future. I am also trying to write my own 68k dynamic recompiler. Also the emu is not strictly tied to just 68000/Z80 machines so emulating other hardware is relativly easy. And its also true that I am writing this emulator to gain some knowledge about emu programming so that maybe in future I can make an Atomiswave emu :-)

Anyways its nice to meet other emu authors so thank you for replying.

stay safe,

AamirM

seriously, konami gx, that would be fun, and there is plenty of room for improvement in the emulation, faster emulators, even better emulators (mame's GX support isn't perfect)

with NeoGeo / CPS all bases really are covered, the systems aren't even that interesting or fun to emulate.

Seriously I'm all for choice, and wish people would use other emulators than MAME sometimes, but if the only other emulators people make are for CPS and NeoGeo then sadly people aren't left with much choice at all.

I'd love a modern emulator for some other systems that I could slap on my old systems that performs much better than MAME, but at the moment everybody is just making ones for CPS / NG / other 68k based systems rather than anything very interesting.

I'm sure there would be a lot of interest if somebody wrote a *fast* emulator for the atari / midway 3d games (gauntlet legends etc.) that would be an interesting challenge too...

well, good luck with everything, if you do enjoy it then fair enough, personally I find a lot of the enjoyment comes down to figuring things out tho, or doing something that hasn't been done before, but everything is already known and properly understood for those systems. (with the exception of some CPS1 oddities which are really going to need tests on real hardware to figure out, mainly 'bad tiles' which need per game hacks at the moment)

The main reason I looked at the Megadrive stuff (despite it being near perfectly emulated in Kega) was that there were simply some games that had issues in Kega, and the vast quantity of pirated games that didn't work at all because they required extra protection hadrware emulated, plus the fact that Kega is closed source, so a lot of secrets were being hidden and I prefer knowledge to be free ;-)

Each to their own anyway.

Hi,

As I said already, the emu is not tied to 68k based machines. In fact, I already have ZN-1,ZN-2 and Sega Genesis emulation on my todo list. But I tried to start with something simple.

stay safe,

Aamir

and combine that with something else! Stroff puts together a new and fast stand-alone emulator for Namco System 21/22 and I wish some of the mamedev would join another project with a similar framework like MAME to include games from Namco System 11/12/21/22, some Konami 3D-games, PSX-stuff and maybe Midway/Atari 3D games performing like the RadikalBiker emulator ;)

Maybe there is interest to join forces and build a new framework/emulator to include all kind of 3d-based or hardware demanding arcade machines, which are too slow for MAME but would benefit from static recompiler programming and hardware-accelerated gfx-routines?

Think about it ;)

Would something like SRAME be an option?
