I just released a new MAMEBoyX. It's a special release with many requested games enabled. Read the whole thing on MAMEBoy site:

I tested all the new roms baring a few that I did not have. I LOVE the asteroids! Asteroids Deluxe with full sound is sweet! Missle command is working nicely as well. The MameCE version never worked right for me. These are going to be full time residents on my E-125 :).

I tested with sound on and if that was slow or did not work, I turned off the sound. I will report where sound did not work even though it may be that sound was not expected to work. I tested on an E-125.

Here are the results:



astdelux - Works Great! - oh yea :)
asteroid - Works (no sound) but sweet!
astinvad - Works (no sound)
atarifb - Seems to work (don't know how to play)
atlantis - Works Great!
berzerk - Works (no sound)
blktiger - Works Great with no sound. A bit slow with sound.
boothill - Works (no sound) but controls are not all there.
bosco - Does not start - just gives a black screen.
bsktball - Works (not so good with sound though) but controls are not all there.
bzone - Works (but a bit slow)
centiped - Works Great (but goes too fast)!
cheekyms - Works Great!
circus - Works Great!
citycon - Works Great with no sound! A bit slow with sound.
commando - Works Great (but goes too fast)! A bit funky with sound.
defender - Starts up but controls don't work.
docastle - Works Great (but a bit slow)!
firetrap - Does not start - gets stock at a blue screen.
gunfight - Works (no sound) but controls are not all there.
guzzler - Works Great with no sound! Slow with sound.
jhunt - Don't have this rom.
llander - Seems to work ok.
locomotn - Works Fine.
mappy - Seems ok.
mario - Works Great with no sound! A bit slow with sound.
missile - Works Great! This one is a keeper :)
nitedrvr - Works, no sound.
nrallyx - Works Great!
pbaction - Works Great with no sound! Slow with sound.
punchout - Does not start - Crashes Program.
rallyx - Works Great!
rocnrope - Either I have the wrong rom for this or it is not being recognized.
rpatrolb - Looks fine.
shackled - Works Great with no sound! Slow with sound.
solomon - Works Great with no sound! Slow with sound.
spiders - Works but no sound.
sprint1 - Works but no sound.
starforc - Works Great with no sound! Slow with sound.
starwars - Works but no sound.
targ - Works but no sound. Runs a bit too fast.
tempest - Works Great!
temptube - Works Great!
trojan - Either I have the wrong rom for this or it is not being recognized.
tron - Seems to work but graphics are a bit messed up.
vanguard - Works but no sound.

I tried Commando, Pinball Action, Star Force and these are three games that I liked so far. I'll try to speed them up and include in the next regular release. Commando runs at about 60% of original speed on my 168Mhz EM500. Try it on regular MAME and you'll see it's definitely not too fast on MAMEBoy :))

What are your plans for the games that you don't make part of the official release? Will you release more versions of MAMEBoyX with whatever optimizations you make or is it matter of holding on to this version if we want to play those games? I'm afraid that I can't give up asteroids. There are others I'd miss but the two asteroids games would be the only ones that would make me keep two versions of MAMEBoy on my machine :).

Anyway, thanks so much for your efforts! There is no better Mame for us E-125 (and other casio I'm sure) users!

I don't think I'll release next MAMEBoyX anytime soon. All the optimizations I make will only be in the regular MAMEBoy version. I simply can't cope with the fact that after enabling certain game combinations, overal emulation speed drops down. That's why I just can't bother optimizing the X version. It has too many games enabled to track down the 'culprits'. However, speed increase in the games supported in the regular version won't be anything to write home about, so you might as well only keep the X version :)

I'm glad you like it :) However, all the credits should go to Ben Cooley and Darren Finck. MAMEBoy is simply a hacked version of their code. I just try to maintain it best I can :)

I just wanted to know if you guys have the same problem with the two rally x's versions...the game runs fine but I can't actually see the map where to locate the flags! Only a portion of the maps is shown
Is this so or perhaps my roms are corrupted???

Great Version....I too have the problem with several of the new roms (I know there not supported, but wanted you to know). Rally X (both) run off the screen. Bosconian takes a while to load and is super slow and runs off the screen. When I play asteriods, the ship disapears when I hit fire (am I doing something wrong?).

Ok were did you find all the roms? It seems the ones I have don't work. A little step bye step help would be great. If I can get 1 to work I can figure out the rest.

Thanks for the new release. Works good on my Cassiopeia 500/150Mhz. Nothing works slower than in the Januar-Release. So is there any reason not to continue MameboyX as the regular Mameboy?

Where should you put the ROM directory with Mameboy?

I tried copying the program and its subdirs to \storage card\program files, tried \my documents, tried putting a ROM file directly into \My documents (no subdirs). Nothing worked.

How did you drive battlezone? On my ipaq the only thing I can seem to do is fire the missle, I cant turn or anything with the joypad.
