It would appear that who ever is programming this MAME is not answering any enqires about the above machines, as the above machines have a very large slice of the CE market i think some support would be a great help..............

I personally have both 680 and 690 i would like to see MAMECE working without the "Somethings missing" error....

Hope to hear from a techy soon

Unfortuantelly, to program for a certain CE device without really being in a possesion of one is very difficult. As far as I know, neither of curent MAME CE programmers have any of devices you are inquiring about.

Excuse me.
1. I have answered ALL inquiries about writing a port for these devices as well as others to EVERYone who has bothered to email me or Post here.
2. If you think your device has such a market share then why haven't YOU or some of your buddies already written your own port or modified my code to do so.
3. As Marconelly pointed out, I don't own a Jornado of any kind and don't plan on buying one since I feel the iPaq and Casio both fit my personal usage very well.

I did indeed 'bother' to port MAME to the 'current' Jornado PocketPC. I did it 'blindly' as I don't own one myself. But it WAS done, and at the request of many (polite) Jornado users when I had the time to do it.

If you have an older model then why don't you complain to Microsoft to release a GAPI driver for your model so the current and future Versions of Software (mine and others) will work on your devices without any additional alterations. That is the part that 'is missing', and it is not something that us third part developers can release or workaround without alot of additional coding.

As I have stated in Email to may folks that have asked, I may write ports to other(older) devices only if I get time to do so. I still have items I need to clean up and work on in the versions I am already supporting at this time. So stay tuned or pick up a copy of the development kit and make your own contribution.

Good Day.

Cheers,

Hi

Thanks for your post...........

I dont pretend to know or understand programming and to re-invent the wheel is basicly a waist of time so for me to / get someone to re-assemble the code when someone can already do that isnt a good idea.

Would it help if you had your own Jornada 680 (or 690/720) as i am sure (need to check) i could arrange this (FOC to yourself)?

Also (to check i have this right) an easier way would be to obtain a working copy of the "GAPI" library for the above machines and the currect version of MAMECE will work with no problems?, do you have version nunbers this library has to meet to work?

Microsoft has a Programming kit for all Windows CE Devices which emulates any device based on its processor (SH3, SH4, MIPS, Strong ARM) Wether it be a Pocket PC, HandHeld PC or a Palm PC. I peronally own the Jornada 680 and would like to develop a port for the handheld. I also have a copy of the Visual Embedded Tools for Windows CE. I just need a little guidence on where to start programming that port. If anyone who want's to help me get on track I can program a port for the Handheld PC. I am currently Learning Programming in school, but I have a grip of knowlede and can learn as I go.

You are probably talking about CEF(Common Exchange Format?) format. I have yet to see any plugin development kit for
CEF to date. I know it was supposed to be available eventually, but it also was stated that a performance hit would be taken if compiled into CEF. Anywhere from 5% to 20%, if I am not mistaken.

Download or order the EVB/EVC development kit from Microsoft, the source code for MameCE3 and then dig in. Specifically the stuff in the display and sound files are where any changes need to be made. Since those routines are called by Mame's 'exposed' routines. Almost all the Mame engine is self operational and completely independant of the OS, the Mame Dev team did a great job with this part as far as portability goes. Just rewrite the osdepend display and sound routines to operate on the HP (not as easy as it sounds really) but that is the 'basics'.
