I have installed MegaMameCEv9.0 and a few ROMs (scramble, asteroids, pacman). These all work but unfortunately when I try to enable sound from te menu option none of the games even attempt to run and the screen returns to te Mame GUI. I am using a Cassiopeia E125 and any advice you can give to try and get sound would be greatly appreciated.

The games are just as I remember them and sound would be the icing on the cake!. Thanks for a great product.

Mike

Sounds like you need to free more memory. When you enable sound it requires additional memory to load in the sound data. If it can't allocate enough memory it just returns to the main window.
As soon as I get all the bigh items fixed, i'll go back and see if I can put some kind of error messages for these type of things.

Be aware that sound only works in some games and is still a bit rough in MameCE3. I'm working on it and it is getting better. :)

Sounds works on mine (E-125 also) but I never turn it on, it sounds very bad and though I could live with that... the sound makes the games stutter and move very jerky. Making them unplayable. Adding better sound and keeping the games as smooth as with no sound would be a dream... games really need sound.

On the iPaq games can have sound enabled and it plays well in some games (such as frogger and Mr Do).

Unfortunately the Casio processor is still a little weak for both sound and game play. I haven't given up hope on it but it will take some real coding voodoo to get it to an acceptable level I suspect.

Techmaster, I freed up enough memory 17MB and still have the same problem with no sound and the screen returning to the main. Also removed StarTap thinking that this could be causing a problem. Any other suggestions or reason this could be happening (registry errors, program conflicts etc) would be appreciated. I'll settle for bad sound as beggers can not be choosers.

Cheers!

Hmm, that should be enough I would think.
Did you try doing a Soft reset before playing the game. Memory could be fragmented and a soft reset can reorganize it. ALso did you leave a meg or 2 free in storage? Always a good idea.
Are you using current roms from MAME Version .36. What game are you trying to play with sound? Try Frogger and Mr Do. They are small and work well for testing.

Tried all your suggestions + reinstall but still get the black screen and return to main menu. Frogger .36 still no luck.

I changed a registry item some time ago which improves the quality of Windows Media Player when running as a background task but this hasn't affected anything else. For information have a 1GB Microdrive installed but I'm running from Main memory as opposed to Microdrive. That's about all I can give you to go on.

I found that by going to Settings\Sounds & Reminders and disabling Events (warnings, system events) that sound works. I tried every other option for sounds and narrowed it down to this. Hopefully this will prove useful to other users that experience the same problem.

That is so wierd. Mine is enabled and I have no problems. Must be something that you or a program tweeked at some point.

Glad you could finally get it working. The next release has enhanced sound routines. Still haven't fix the low hum but I'm still hammering away at it.

Cheers :)

I get nothing but black screen on Frogger too (on E125)
Mr Do is one of the better games with sound.
