SubjectOT:Buyer ALERT! - Wireless CF Card Reply to this message

If you recently recieved the Mobileplanet Catalog and decided to buy the neat Harmony Compact Flash Wireless Card for you Casio or iPaq, you may want to cancel it.

After reading and rereading the description, it appeared to me as if this card was compliant with most office standards ie 802.11b, it is NOT! The descriptions mentions wandering around the ofice or the house without wires and the only restriction mentioned in the Specs were Casio/iPaq and Type 2 slot. Not a single word about needing their Harmony Access point as well.

Unless you also have one of their propriatary Harmony or Symphony Access points, the card will not work. I have 2 different Dlink models and couldn't get them work so I called Tech support at Harmony. They confirmed that this device is not 802.11b compliant and they have no idea if and when it will be.

Just thought I'd let you all know, just in case you had the same misconception due to Mobileplanet's bad advertising. It's very upsetting to get a new toy and not have it work.
:(

I'm not totally out of luck since my Orinoco Gold PC Card still works in my iPaq but it would have been nice to put the Casio on wireless as well. Guess I'll have to wait for the Symbol one due out any week now.

Cheers,

I knew about that. I should have thought about you, but it didn't occur to me at the time.

It turns out that that card and its inability to work (I did call ahead, I always do) was one of the reasons I sold my Casio in favor of the @migo. The other wa its speed and the Symbol's "next week" EVERY WEEK statements. I feel terrible I didn't mention it, I have to get more active with my gadget-site about these things.

idd you order it with a CC? You always could send it back to the vendor and cancel the charge.

-snip-

I did order it on the CC. After calling MobilePlanet about it they sent me a call tag to return it. I told them to update the Web site and add something to the description or requirements tab stating Harmony-Symphony hub also required. They said "sure I'll let the Web guy know this" But to date they STILL have not modified the page!

According to the harmony tech, others have also fallen into this trap. They also seemed perturbed that MobilePlanet has not updated the site to fix this description.

As I said, its not a major problem since my iPaq has the Orinoco Card, but it would have been very helpful for development when I work on the MIPS version of MameCE3. I also what the second Wireless Card so I don't have to be paranoid about bringing the Orinoco card from work , I'll be able to have 1 card at work and 1 at home just in case. :)

While we're on the subject does anyone know if the spectrum 24 wireless cards work with the @amigo?? I think the model number is LA-502.
