SubjectMameCE on E-115 new Reply to this message

I had a previous version of MameCE running on my E-115, and it ran pretty well from a performance standpoint, but was kind of quirky. I just removed it and installed the newest version, and using the same ROM's it's VERY slow, not even playable really. I tried Ms. PacMan, and it was so slow I cut and pasted the MameCE directory to the storage card to increase memory. With 17MB program memory free it ran faster, but still too slow to play. Checked all the options, which appear to increase speed at the expense of quality, which helped some. It's still slower than it was before, and not much fun. Am I doing something wrong? I plan on doing the 131 - 168 overclock, which I expect to help, but I'm wondering if it's supposed to run slower than previous versions, or if I need to do something different.

Also, it's been about a year since I downloaded any ROM's, and I'm still kind of new to this. When I go looking for them, are the ROMS between MAME and MAME CE interchangeable? Or are there specific ROMS for MAME CE? Any specific place I should be looking?

Thanks!

Try using MAMEBoy for some extra speed on your E115.

What's MAMEBoy and where do I get it? I saw the Marconelly MAMEBoy link on the main page, but it's not working.

I successfully overclocked the E-115 today, but it didn't have any effect on the speed of MameCE3. I did spend some time playing with the various settings with the frame rate turned on, and that seemed to help. I assume that the higher the percentage shown at the top of the screen, the better? What is that a percentage of? What is the number to the right of it, #/60? Anyway, I think I got Ms PacMan just about playable, but the battery died on me. I'm not at home right now, so I'll have to play with it again later.

I do like the fact that the taskbar works with it, and it seems very stable. I never played the previous version very much, because it seemed to be a resource hog and would cause lockups. I'd have to restart before and after using it, which was a pain. So far this version acts just like any other task, no lockups, no problems.

Mameboy site was down today, but it seems to be OK now. Try it again. Mameboy is very simillar to Mamece3, just it's optimized for casio PPCs and there's no version for the ipaq and Jornada. www.mameworld.net/mameboy

The newer version you are using is based on the Desktop Mame source code for the .36 Final build. This version of the MAME source slowed down functionality on the MIPS processor based devices.(On the iPaq ARM processor this version runs very well).

Mameboy is Marconelly's enhanced Casio POcket Version of Mame. It runs a bit faster since it uses older MAME code.

ROMS are interchangable between MAME and MAMECE3. Mameboy needs older romset tho.
I haven't given up on getting more speed out of the MIPS MameCE3 version. Its just taking longer than I expected to get time to work on it.
