SubjectSound question for Tekhmaster Reply to this message

Tekhmaster ~

First of all, let me thank you for a *very* well-done emulator. I guess you've won enough awards and compliments here, but thought I'd throw mine into the hat, too :)

Regarding the sound issue and slowdowns, do you realistically think this is fixable without increasing the CPU mHz (i.e. 400 mHz X-Scale)? Is it possible, like when converting MP3's to WMA's, etc., to lower the sample rate, play them mono instead of stereo, etc.?

HI, thanks for the cudos, they are always apreciated (especially when the work is done for free:).
I do think the sound can work better. I think it will still slow the game down and more CPU speed will be needed to run things at the best rates. But I think some games are playable with sound and the slowdown. I enjoy frogger currently with the sound and hardly notice the speed. 1943 also plays well enough for me with sound.
Decreasing the sample rate might be a possible workaround, however it breaks the idea of using close to pure Mame code and the same roms as used in current releases.
We will have to see how things turn out with the new code base I am working on.

Cheers,
