SubjectDoesn't work at all. Locks up machine with spinning pie when I try to run MAME on iPaq 3870 new Reply to this message

Anyone know why this isn't working for me? I've got an iPaq 3870, with a 128 MB SM in it. I tried the mega version and the regular, tried installing with the auto thing and manual. And always the same thing. I click the icon to run mame, and the spinning pie comes up to tell me to wait, and then, nothing, just sits there spinning, machine is locked up, and all i can do is soft reset it.

Any ideas?

Hmm, you may want to check the amount of the free program memory on your device, but with 64MB of main RAM that should not be a problem. Try backing up everything on your device to a memory card, do a hard reset and install mame from scratch...

Umm, I'm new to the hard reset, what does that wipe out? Everything but the OS? Not sure Elevator Action (tm) is that important to me... :) I should have enough space left. I have at least 10 MB free, maybe 15.

Now it works. Don't know what I did. I removed a bunch of software to try and free some space. And also re-installed a couple of times.

I do notice sometimes that mame just ignores my request to start (I click the icon and nothing happens, as though I didn't click anything, it's not running or trying to run), I then do a soft reset, and it will work afterwards.

Very cool software! (Can't get the sound to work and still have the games be playable, speed-wise, which is too bad.)

If you have everything backed up, it's not a big deal. Just be careful ;)
