SubjectMameCE on Palm OS possible? Reply to this message

I have been looking at getting a new PDA. Currently, I'm a Palm user, but I have admired several qualities of the Pocket PC. I previously had an monochrome Ipaq, but found myself not using it much. Palm units will be going to StrongARM processors in the coming year and I was wondering if it would be extraordinarily difficult to program MameCE to the Palm OS? Since these are two entirely different OS, I figure it might be difficult, but at least now the processor is approaching speeds needed for this program. Just curious. Thanks. Besides, I figure that Techmaster will be working on having the program work with the XScale devices in his spare time.

Yes, the power is already enough to run MAME. Obviously is won't be MAME-CE since MAME for Windows CE is for Windows CE devices. Palm devices run an OS by Symbian. The Nokia 9210 already has a version of MAME compiled for it.

It already should work on XScale afaik without any changes needed - it's an ARM-based chip just like StrongARM.

"Yes, the power is already enough to run MAME"

I can hardly understand how is 33Mhz enough to run even the simplest games in Mame. Palm will have to wait for the ARM processors and some kind of C compiler to make some use of the MAME source.
