SubjectMame not responding to OK on Jornada 568 new Reply to this message

I have a jornada 568. I had mame working fine on it, i had a problem and had to hard reset, now i can't get mame to work. (megamame is what i have installed).

The problem: The mame screen loads. Mame lists the games it detects. I try to load a game and get to the screen that tells you to type ok. I hit left, then right just like i did when it worked, but nothing happens. It stays on the screen that says to type ok, as if i'm not hitting left/right. There doesn't seem to be any way to exit without a soft reset.

At first, i thought i was gapi (gx.dll) but i have the latest. Next i thought it might me the buttons were asssigned to something that is crashing the system with no visual indication, but i have all of them unmapped in start/system/buttons. At this point, i did get galaxian to run ok. I soft reset it to reload it to see if it would work again, but it doesn't. Next, i thought the memory was the problem. I deleted everything i didn't need. Now i have about 25MB free, still same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rob

I suspected that somehow the keys got remapped. I wanted to see if mame was running or if it crashed. There are only two ways i could think of to do that- hit the power button, if the system isn't crashed then it should power off obviously. It doesn't i'm forced to soft reset.

I also enabled "show framerate" and i can see the framerate changing in the upper right corner as the system waits for me to hit ok (left/right), but only for a few seconds after which it (no matter what game i try to load) stays at 100% without flickering or changing.

I did find that mame seems to be working. When i'm supposed to hit left/right for OK, i have to hit left/right over and over really fast. When the game starts, it seems to run normally until i try to start it again. The buttons seem like they aren't detected. They are, it's just extremely slow. The graphics seem normal, like when galaxian is playing in demo mode before a "quarter" is inserted. WHen i try to hit the button for quarter and start game, i have to hit it over and over, it eventually detects that i hit a button. Obviously, the game isn't playable..

Does anyone have any ideas? I went to the startup folder and took everything out..

Thanks

Rob

I dont know enough about this PPC, had a look on ebay and it appears to have a 206 mhz processor. When i had an old Ipaq (206 mhz) Mame just ran too slow (As did SNES, GBA etc) and was unplayable.

I then had an Ipaq 3970 (400mhz) but even the processor was faster it wasnt Pocket PC 2003 plus it wasnt the latest latest 400mhz processor and again games ran too slow on this.

I then bought an Asus MyPal 620 which was 2003 plus the latest processor which ran about 3 times as fast and now i can run GBA, Genesis, SNES and MAME games.

Sorry this isnt a showing off post or that but basically older PPC's (specially 206mhz PPC's) probably wont be able to run Mame games well unless you overclock. Even then it might be a struggle. A later PPC is what you really need i'm afraid

I have a similar issue iPAQ 4350, PPC2003, x-scale processor, games list and you can chose options, but when you click play the screen goes black then after a minute or two goes back to the game list. Any thoughts? X-Scale not supported?

It depends on the game. Some of them played Ok(acceptable if not average speed) on the slower devices.
However this doesnt sound like his problem.

I am not sure what his problem could be, but be sure to test with something like frogger or pacman as they were some of games that I considered acceptable speed.
If that fails, try uninstalling and deleting all traces of the mamece folder. Then reinstall from a freshly downloaded copy just in case your install file got corrupted.

Cheers.

Didn't respond since i waited for a couple of weeks, no response, so i gave up.. just happened on this thread again when i decided to give it another shot..

I haven't hard reset since having it installed last time, though at that time i did try running after a fresh hard reset.

i updated to the latest gapi, mamece tried to install older, but i denied it (mabye i should allow it...?)

I copied ms pacman to rom folder (only rom i have that i know for sure has all correct files....

Loaded mame, loaded fine.

Highlighted ms pacman, clicked play, I got a console that said my file system is corrupt, please check. Several lines of that error and a references to roms that were installed last time i tried it. (again, this is a fresh install of mamece). Checked mamce folder for a config file that might have old rom references in it, none. Searched the registry (resco explorer 2003), no rom references..

After the errors though, same results as before. A box with text at the end of which is instructions to type ok. I hit left then right, nothing. I tried hitting alternatley left and right over and over, nothing. Tried hitting start, nothing. Apparently it's crashed. Hit the reset. Checked memory, 19.8 storage and 18.19 program.
