I am in the market for a pocket PC. Never have one before.
What does everyone suggest? I am thinking about this one:
HP iPAQ H4150 Pocket PC
It's the cheapest one i could find that has WiFi/Bluetooth
Will this mame run just as fast as the Asus pocket pc everyone seem to talk about on here?

AFAIK the Asus PPC's are the fastest right now, plus they have the best controls for gaming.

If you need both wifi and bluetooth, the new Asus 716 might do you well, or an A620BT with a wifi card maybe?

As for MAME running as well on the 4150, I honestly don't know, but from what I've read the A620 is known to run other emus faster than any other PPC.

Thanks Prophet

What makes the asus run faster and control better then the rest? MOst of the current have the same specs so i thought they would be similiar. I am new to the pocket pc world.

Speedwise, I don't know precisely why one PPC with same CPU and clockspeed runs faster, it's probably related to memory bus speeds or graphics subsystem etc.

But i do know I've seen several reviews and reports where the Asus scored the fastest on various benchmarks, especially gaming related ones.

As for controls - PPC's vary GREATLY when it comes to controls.

Most have similar layouts (i.e. the central dpad with 2 buttons on either side) but the style and quality of the dpad and buttons varies tremendously. Some PPC's have dpads that could break your thumb because they're so stiff, same with buttons. Some can't register more than one or two inputs simultaneously. Some have lag, so the game might not see a button press right away. All sorts of things.

What makes the A620 good is the dpad isn't stiff, it registers all 8 directions pretty well, and is responsive. The buttons are also smooth, not too stiff and there are no issues with lag or input limits. And unlike most PPC's, the buttons are laid out in such a way that you can use your thumb to hold one down and also press the other (like on Gameboys) - important for Mario games for example when you run and jump.

Very few PPC's can make those claims.

Don't ask me why - because you'd think good gaming controls are also good controls for everything else, but it almost seems like some PPC makers purposely cripple their controls... it's pretty weird. Especially when you consider that games are THE best selling software category for PDA's. And that's a fact.

price wise not much
i just like the sd/mmc slot on the ipaq rather then the compact flash
another major factor is the size of the device, which is relively small compare to the asus. Not to mention the wireless and bluetooth.

The deciding factor now is if it handles emulators well like the asus :p
