SubjectMamece3 on an MDA Reply to this message

Hey all,

I'm new to Mame and to the forum. I have a complete set of Mame32 roms and they all work in Windows XP. I downloaded and installed MameCe3 on my MDA, everything seems ok. When I copied a few roms over to the MDA MameCE3 sees them fine but when I try to play any of them I get a black screen for a couple of seconds and then back to the MameCE3 startup screen.

Is there anywhere I can look for errors?
I thought it might be a rom compatibility issue but it seems to "see" the games OK, it's only listing the roms that I put it in "roms" folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Kevin

I had the same problem with MegaCE on my MDA. Seems it was just the ROM I was trying. I tried a different ROM and it worked. Not sure if the first ROM(works on XP) is a wrong version or if MegaCE just doesn't support the games it says it does.

I've uninstall MegaCE/MameCE because it doesn't seem to handle screen rotation correctly and without being able to slide out the keyboard it is kinda worthless.

I actually got a few games to work. I didn't do much, just got a hold of the correct rom files I guess. They're all "zip" files and most of them work well. The hard part on the MDA is setting up the keys.
This is just my opinion but the graphics rock! I've gotten killed at level 1 on Galaxian because of the lack of a joystick but .... now that it works, it ROCKS.. it's awesome even on the MDA :)

The MAME rom set has to be version .36 to work otherwise MAMECE will return to the menu screen. Even still, some larger .36 roms still won't work.

This is trivial to most I'm sure but how do you tell what version your rom is? I couldn't find anything in the fileset that indicated the version.

Thanks,

Kevin

There is no other way that I know of except to download the .36 older version of MAME for PC and test the roms on it. That being said, might as well just test them on MAMECE on your PPC. There are utilities called Clrmame and Romcenter that are suppose to rollback rom sets but many cannot be reverted however they can tell you if the rom is a legit version of the one you want. I can't figure either one of these utilities out so you are on your own.

I have both ClrMamePro and RomCenter but I can't get either of them to do anything. They work OK but I still don't see what they can do, other than read in all your roms.

For instance, I don't see where I can do a version change, to up/downgrade the roms to a different version.

Thanks,

Kevin

I also enjoy reading the comments, but notice that a lot of people should stay on topic to try and add value to the original blog post. I would also encourage online assignment help
