Hello! I'm going to buy a new handheld these days, and I'd like to know, which of them is the best for playing MAME. I'm wondering for ipaq 3630 or E-125, been most closely to ipaq... If you know something please tell me your opinion.
Thanks.

iPAQ is faster and has screen which is very good for outdoor usage. Unfortunately, it's also plagued with the multiple button problem, which means that it does not register 2 button presses in the same time. However, it can register when you press center of the keypad along with other button, but diagonals and other for games important controls simply do not work. iPAQ has many other problems such as dust going under the screen, stylus jamming, sound popping, digitizer not registering stylus moves correctly etc, and as far as I know all these problems are still there even in the most recent iPAQ revisions. Compaq has promised fixes for some of these (not for buttons!) but I don't know if anybody got these new devices. Also, IMHO, iPAQs screen is very bad and washed out indoors.

Casio has incredible screen indoors, but for outdoor usage is not very good. It also does not have any problem of the above (or any other for that matter) but it's processor is slower which shows in MAME. Still, a lot of games in MAME are perfectly playable on Casio and I'm very happy to have it.

My suggestion: Go for the Casio EM-500. You can buy it at amazon.com, receive free 28MB memory card and get $100 rebate from Casio. For that money you can buy 64MB memory card and have device with 80MB memory for about $500 US (plus a spare 28MB card). I'm sure you won't find better deal anywhere else.

There are also refurbished Casio E-100s and E-105s for sale on Casio's website for only $200 and $300 respectively. IMHO, a good deal, esp if you are on a budget.

I few silly developers are starting to only offer CE3.0 versions of their apps, but I hope they'll come to their senses and continue to support CE2.11 once they realise a whole new crop of E-10X owners are comming along (those buying up all the refurbished units) who will be clamouring for apps.

Thank you for your answer. Please if you know, answer me to this also:

Is it possible in Casio, to add a CF Lan card for connecting the device to my lan? I have there a linux server with IP masquerating and I'm wonderning if the Pocketpc can connect to internet via this way for web, e-mail e.t.c....

I thing that it's possible to add also a CF modem card and connect directly to the internet...

The Casio Em500 does not have a CF Slot so you can not add a CF LAN card to it.
If you want to use a CF Card you will need to get an iPaq or the Casio E125 (or Casio E10x if you like them as much as Darren :)

Precisely. To get on the net with EM-500, you have to use either a cell phone with IR port or a modem that you have to purchase separately.

EM is a great PKTPC, a real workhorse, however if you have the extra cash, don't let anything hold you back from an iPAQ. Expansion is the keyword with the iPAQ. The SD port or whatever it's called on the EM is the limiting factor for that device, and not all Casios Perse.

The iPAQ on the otherhand has a port on the bottom which will allow it to accept CF, PCMCIA cards via Expansion Sleeves. They offer more functionality with features like, True Wireless Interent (no GSM Phone), External HardDrives, as well as Removable HardDrives and even GPS.

Games shouldn't be your priority for buying a PDA, and even then, you'd still be better off with an iPAQ. The Extra Large Build of Mame plays many more games at a very playable speed than any the device out there. Every other Emulator out there for that matter Runs better, Faster, and is usually out first for the iPAQ. I'm on the last level of Megaman on PocketNES, and have beaten numerous Mame games despite what anyone can say about the limited controls. The truth is, these old games mainly used 8 directions and only one fire button. That is easily handled by the iPAQ. Even on the newer games, the controls can still be easily sorted. If the games weren't fun via ANY mode of input, why would Tek bother compiling a Jordana exe? (No offense 54X owners, but my point is, you have no Joypad).

The Critics have spoken, and iPAQ just won them all over. The public has spoken, as Compaq holds a large percentage of the PPC market. Even Bill Gates has spoken, right into his iPAQ quite literally! Voice recognition at it's finest, ad most impressive, all done on an iPAQ.

All of this wouldn't be happening if the iPAQ weren't as Powerful as it is.

Correction, I meant to say 4 Directions.

Long day.
