I enabled Marble Madness (its hardware is very similar to Guantlet's) once in MAMECE-10X. It was very slow. Too slow to play as I recall. I don't think I disabled the 6502 (sound CPU) back then. Perhaps I'll revisit it for fun. As I now understand (after reading on the mame bug reports) it is possible to disable the 6502 on Atari System 1 games, but since it also handles coin insertions, it is not possible to coin the game up... However, the workaround is to set the machine on free play via the dipswitches :)
While I'm generally quick to point out the un-feasibility of many of the games people suggest enabling; in this case I'm not quite as doubtful as Marconelly. These are some of the first, and thus 'simplest', 680x0 games. With the 6502 disabled (leaving only one 680x0 to emulate), a little underclocking, and some driver tweaks... some of the Atari Sys 1 games _may_ be "playable" (for those with a loose definition of the term) on an overclocked EM-500 or E-125 rig (and certainly on an iPaq; it should be able to handle single-680x0 games acceptably IMO)...
