I downloaded and copied the big version for SH3 to my Jornada and started MAME, everything looks fine but no games appear in the list of roms unless I show all. If I choose a game the screen goes black for a while and simply comes back to the list.

Ideas welcome...

Have you put the actual ROM files in the ROMS folder?
You have to download and put zipped ROMS there. Go to www.mame.dk if you don't have ROMS already.
