SubjectProblem running MAMECE on Ipaq Reply to this message

I've installed the Extra Large Build (made the folders \Mame and Mame\ROMS, and copied the 5MB exe-file to \Mame, the GX.dll to \Windows)
When I start the exe-file I get a blank screen with a 'Play' and a an 'Exit' button in the lower part of the screen. I loaded a few games, Asteriods (rev 2), and Galaga, but whenever I try to start a game the screen goes
black for a second and I'm returned to the game list. I have no other programs running (except the File Explorer), and I have 10 MB allocated to programs, of which 8 MB
is free. I have tried soft resetting the device.
Any help would be appreciated!

And I copied a lot of this from a post below, because I was having the same problems but couldn't find a solution.

It's possible that it is a bad ROM Set. Did you try dowloading the ROMs again?

Did put the ROM file(zipped) in the ROM folder?

Be sure the ROM filename is correct, ie asteroid.zip or galaga.zip (galaga Runs kinda of slow still).

Try dkong.zip or frogger.zip If these don't work then there is may be something else wrong. If they work then it is a bad ROM set.

I have the same problem on my iPAQ. I have plenty of RAM (10MB) but most games don't work - I either get the black screen for a few seconds and then back to the MAMECE screen or the game doesn't work. The only one that I can get to work so far is Asteroids but it's running very slow.

I looked at iMAME but I don't like the interface for one and the games list is not very comprehensive - this emulator is the best if I could get it to work. It can't be bad ROMS because I've tried 10 or so from different sources. In some cases, I can get the title screen up but when trying to start the game it goes back to a self test. It's confusing.

Any suggestions?
