SubjectMameCE won't work on iPAQ new Reply to this message

I've installed the Extra Large Build (made the folders \MameCE and \MameCE\ROMS, and copied the 5MB exe-file to \MameCE, the GX.dll was installed already).

When I start the exe-file I get a blank screen with a 'Play' and a an 'Exit' button in the lower part of the screen. If I choose Options-> Show All Games I get a huge list of games, but whenever I try to start a game the screen goes black for a second and I'm returned to the game list. I've tried dozens of games, and the same thing happens every time. I have no other programs running (except the File Explorer), I have 15 MB allocated to programs, of which 12 MB is free. I have tried soft resetting the device.

Any help would be appreciated!

Sincerely,
Jørn Jørgensen

You have to download ROM files and put them in the ROMs folder. Download from www.mame.dk and do not unzip them, just copy zips to roms folder.

OK! I thought, since the build was so large, that it included some games... What is the difference then, between the extra large build and the normal build? Sorry about the stupid questions, but I'm totally new to Mame...

The difference is that extra large build supports much more games. Normal build supports about 50-60 games while extra large supports few hundreds. For example, even when you download certain games and put them in the ROMs folder, normal build will not recognise and run them. For a list of all supported games, select 'show all games' from the options menu.

Hi, I've done the same thing as the guy above and I've gotten some ROM's and tried using them, but all it does is flash a black screen at me then drop me back to the Play list. So far, Asteroids (rev 2) and Galaga (Namco) show up even though I've added Space Harrier and Joust. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you have correct ROMs. Download them from www.mame.dk they have the latest MAME ROMs all the time.
