SubjectHaving MAMEBoy issues ... new Reply to this message

I just picked up an EM-500, so of course I just HAD to try out MAME on it. Pretty cool, even though nothing seems to run well with sound (sounds like ass on the built in speaker anyway). Two sticky points though:

1. The 'record' button does exit to the menu, but it also fires up the 'notes' application -- is it supposed to do that? Pretty annoying.

2. Some romsets from my current MAME collection don't work (Pacman, Frogger). Is that due to the older version of the MAME source? If it is, any pointers on finding older versions around? or maybe diffs for the current versions that just have the changes?

Overall though, very cool!

Galaxian and Crazy Kong run full speed with sound on my Overclocked 168Mhz EM-500. Besides that - no luck. Original MAME is just not built with speed in mind.

I have no idea how to fix that, but here's what you can do: Go to control pannel and remap record button to '<'Start menu'>' It will be more useful for you anyway and after you do that everything will work as charm!

Yes, that's because of old (0.35) source used for MAMEBoy. Tell me which ROMs you need and leave e-mail here.

Hi,

First, congratulations for your software.

I have a E-115 and i'm using the modify version from Marconelly Labs.

This version is incredible!

I tried many different version but this one is the
fastest by far. The sound is not perfect but it is the
first that have a acceptable sound and still have some
speed on the game.

The list of games is very limited compare to the full
MameCE (6Mo) but the speed is not good and the controls
are not really compatible with my E-115

Regarding the controls, the fire button is not reacting
very quickly (With Gyruss it's very bad).

Is it a PocketPC, Hardware or MameCe issue ?
Can something be done about it?

Anyway, in my opinion it's a GREAT PIECE OF WORK !!!

BTW, could you put the TRON rom available in your list
(I love that game very much too)

------------------

Now for my little problem:

I have some Rom's that appear in the list but if you select
them and press on PLAY, nothing happen.

For example, I downloaded all possible version of Arkanoid
and each time rename the file for "arkatayt" but with always
the same result.

I uninstalled the program, dowloaded the latest version
(V1.3 / 01-30-2001) and re-installed everything on my
E-115.

There is even a thread on the Message Board that is
saying to download the "kicker" rom and to rename it
to "shaolins" but same result.

I always compare my CFG and ROM directory to make
sure i have the good file name when it's not working.

After i rename the file, i make sure i exit the program first.
Then, I check the usage of memory to make sure i have at least
between 15 to 18 Mo free for the Game. Then, i reload the program

I downloaded the files from different internet site
to make sure that it was not a server issue.

I even tested the rom files with my MamePc
to make sure they were working fine but i'm using
Build Beta .37 Beta 11 and you are using Build
.35 or .36

I don't know what to do anymore !!!
(Or where to find the correct rom's)

Here is the list of rom's that won't start:

- arkanoid
- contra
- kangaroo
- Burger Time
- Green Beret
- Invaders
- Kangaroo
- Shaolins
- Xevious

All the other games in your list are working just fine.

If the program has no problem, maybe you could tell me
the complete information for each of these rom's
(Name, size, Display, Manufacturer)
and the site you suggest to download it from.
(I have many site in my bookmark but in case of ...)

Or maybe could you put a separate download from your web
site that would have all the working rom on your version
in one zip file.

Thank you very much for your help and support

Try putting the roms for the 'main' arkanoid (arkanoid.zip)
http://www.mame.dk/gameinfo/arkanoid/
and the roms for the Tayto bootleg (arkatayt.zip)
http://www.mame.dk/gameinfo/arkatayt/
in your roms dir and see if that works.

> - contra

Try this one: http://www.mame.dk/gameinfo/contra/

> - Burger Time

This is a tricky one, and details on how to make a working romset are in my readme.txt (I don't know if Marconelly recreated or included it with his build):

2) take the btime roms and the btimem roms and combine them
into a single zip named btime.zip

For the rest, try getting them from www.mame.dk and most should work.

Thanks for the tip, that works great!

For me, Burgertime, Dig Dug, Frogger, Kangaroo and Pacman won't work.

Thanks

It's an E115 hardware issue. No help there, AFAIK.

thanks :-)

I'd release version with requested games enabled. Tron is among them.

Leave your e-mail here with list of all games you need.

If you're really impatient for Tron, MAMECE-10X should run on an E-115, just the buttons are a bit wacked.
