Ok I'm sure this has been covered multiple times. But I keep trying, and have read the FAQ, and still I suck too much to get it right.

I used to be big into NeoRageX a few years ago. I had most or all of the available ROMS. I burned them and gave them to a friend. Wife had a baby, so I haven't touched the computer for gaming in waaaay too long. Now the little dude is a lot less work, so I wanna get into the scene again.

I got a dvd-r from my friend. He claims it's all the ROMS I gave him, plus some extras that he picked up. However, when I try to use the newest version of Mame32, I don't get any of the NeoGeo ones to work. I get some awesome stuff like darkstalkers, bunch of Megaman games, lots of marvel v capcom...

I have tried several different Neogeo.zip bios files from different places, and try putting them in just about every directory, both zipped and unzipped, but no luck. When I go to the misc section under options, it won't let me select any bios.

I'd like to stick with Mame, but I'm tempted to go back to NeoRage if I can't get this figured out.

Some simple steps:

- Grab Romcenter/Clrmame and audit your set
- get the missing parts from *insert name here* (Google)
- re-audit and finish up
- run the game in Mame etc.
- use dat files from Logiqx.com

Oh and Easyemu is always a good point to start.

Thanks for the help. The easyemu page was good. I just downloaded the newest version of kawaks, and what do you know? It runs all of my Neo Geo roms (at least the bunch that I had time to try) without any problems. I don't think it looks as good as Mame though: it seems like it is stretching the 640X480 screen to fit my native 1024X768 screen, rather than just switching the screen to that mode like Mame seems to do. I'll keep working on it.

Goto Video > Correct Window/FullScreen Ratio. Set whatever looks good to you.

The only option there that makes it full screen is "stretch to full screen". The others display it in a little box instead. I normally run 1280X1024, but it seems like the program should be able to switch my screen resolution just like regular PC games do. It seems like it is stuck in 1280X1024, then displays the games in a small 800X600 box. And the strecth opytion does not look good at all.

personally I would not use mame to emulate neogeo because the graphic settings are a lot easier to use with a more user friendly emulator such as kawax, final burn, or nebula and I enjoy playing them more on a 27" wega from my XBOX than anything else. If you want to try using mame, I'm not trying to discourage it but it sounds like you probably don't have the correct neogeo.zip. It isn't that hard to find and you just stick it in your roms directory. I just have one neogeo.zip with my MAME rom set and all my roms work. Just grub it from your favorite efnet roms channel.
