SubjectVisual PinMame 1.10 Sound Problems new Reply to this message

I just tried Visual PinMame 1.10 (deleting the previous version and installing it fresh). It works - but I noticed that playing games such as "Bride of Pinbot", the sound seems to have pronounced static or gravel sounding. It's not smooth. The previous version I had installed was whatever came out before 1.10, and that seemed to have been fine. Anyone else had any issues like this?

Maybe that helps

I updated my VB scripts to the latest.
I tried deleting the NVRAM files, and no luck.

My versions are:
Visual Pinball (0.4.1930)
Visual PinMAME 1.10 (release)
VB scripts 2.33

It doesn't seem to be anything with sound at too high of a volume either. I have used the same sound settings between the 2 versions. But just as a goof, I lowered the volume in the Visual PinMAME interface (hit ` and adjust the dB), but no luck.

Read the bugs.txt in your pinmame directory ...

Bugs in Pinmame that we are aware of:
-------------------------------------
(Note: Many of these bugs have been extremely difficult to track down and fix,
so it might be awhile before they can be corrected!)

#1) Williams/Bally WPC: DCS sound still have some problems.
(Don't use full volume (30-31) to avoid static noise)

This is what i find in the docFiles

Well, I tried pulling down my volume (both in Visual PinMAME, by using the ` key) and by going into the menus of the game itself. I pulled it all the way down to like 10, and tried it, and it still sounds like it's got issues.

But I guess they know about it.

Thanks.

Hi there. I have these problems as well, going back to the previous version fixes all the sound problems. There's very serious sound issues with most tables and they appeared with this new version (1.10). I'm running WinXP and have a soundblaster audigy card, my CPU is powerful enough to be a CPU issue (AMD 1,6ghz) and as i said, previous version ran just fine.

Great great job with the new soundchip, it's great to have sound on those "mute" tables :)

Keep up the excellent work !

Same here. These problems appeared with the new version. It's worse if you try running Visual PinMAME from the supplied HTML page. Huge slowdowns can occur at times. And this with The Addams Family (sound hardware is just YM2151+PCM). And yes, my system should be able to handle it (Athlon 950MHz, 128MB), especially without Visual Pinball running at the same time.

Here's the solution:

Go to Start/Run
Type DXDiag and Enter
Go to the Sound tab and take the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level down from "Full Acceleration" to "Basic Acceleration"
Exit

Restart the table
Sonic sweetness again!

So are you implying that it could be a Direct X problem?
Or a Direct X and VPINMAME problem?

I'm not implying anything since I do not know the details about how this software works. I'm just reporting what worked for me. The thought going around in the VPinMAME message boards is that it's a problem between VP and VPinMAME. The solution is a workaround until the authors have a chance to investigate.

Turning down to basic acceleration is good if you have 2 speakers, lol With 4 , when i use basic acceleration with my SB Live and WinXP I get perfect sound , but sound comes from just 2 speakers only. lol and many games and progs, i use sound better with 4 , so i'll wait for fixed version :)
