It seems like almost every time the ball comes down through the left tunnel, it goes straight toward the gap between the flippers, and I have no chance to hit it. Is this how the real game was too? Seems pretty cheap to me.

You bet!! Little frustrating, but that's where I used to give the table a swing, try the tiltbuttons next to the shift buttons and give that table a PUSH!! :)
