I do so wish to play it. The opening level (training level) comes up, and I believe I'm in some sort of elevator or hallway or something... ANYWAY, it's very nice for about three seconds when the game crashes. Hard.

Windows 98 SE.
Geforce FX 5900
Pentium 3 533 or 600 or something mhz processor
256 MB RAM

Not sure if this will help or not, but try using your windows update feature and use the latest patch for thief is there is one. And try reinstalling thief.
