I think you need the original CD for some files after you change it, and that's it!

Oh, that is stupid. IE is part of the OS. Are you sure you just can't go to microsoft.com, view the website in French, then the version of IE you download would have to be in French right?

Hehe yeah I used to do that with win98 for example, unfortunately it won't work with xp, it won't install either telling me that I have to uninstall the english version first (duh, it's part of windows) or that a more recent version is installed.

I tried messing with the registry and somewhat managed to install it, unfortunately, I couldn't start windows anymore, even in safe mode, so I used the last known configuration and when I was back in windows, well, it did half the job. Only outlook express was in french. It doesn't seem like it's done some harm to the OS, but I find it kinda risky you know.

I'll try to get my hands on one of those MUI packs for XP.

Thanks MS for making our lives even more complicated.

Heh

I take it you don't know anyone with the french version on CD? A French Office or Visual Studio CD would also have a copy of IE on it...

Oh well... Try eMule I guess!

Actually you can easily download a full version of IE on your HD and install it later without having to rely on windowsupdate, there's a command line that will download all the necessary files so you can put them on a CD or whatever, that's the way I tried it, and well, you know the rest.

In less than 5 mins I had xp in french, I sure put it back in english as soon as I could.

Too bad that with all the registry editing and stuff I did, I still have outlook express in french, that damn thing won't go back to english, plus I can't highlight anything with the mouse in it... I can live with that I guess.

I tried thunderbird, no thanks
